Press Release 2025 Municipal Election

Concerns have been brought to the attention of the Council of Summer Village of Sunset Point regarding the eligibility of individuals as candidates for election in the 2025 general election.

The Summer Village of Sunset Point takes concerns regarding the eligibility of individuals to participate in the municipal election seriously. Compliance with the requirements of the Local Authorities Election Act and the Municipal Government Act is of paramount importance to ensure fair, lawful and democratic elections.

In response to these concerns, Council has directed Administration to instruct legal counsel to commence proceedings in the Court of King’s Bench on behalf of the municipality in order to seek advice and direction from the Court regarding eligibility issues in relation to the 2025 municipal election, if required.

We are currently working with the municipality’s legal counsel to complete our due diligence in relation to these matters, in order to ensure that there is a lawful basis for any legal proceedings commenced by the municipality.

Friendly Reminder: Garbage Bin Placement

📢 To make garbage collection easier and safer for everyone, please remember to place your garbage carts on the pavement for pickup. When carts are off the road, our drivers have to step out to move them, or bins can drop hard, leading to potential damage.

In years with regularly scheduled elections Sunset Points Election shall be held on the fourth Saturday of July.

Where more than 4 candidates are running during regularly scheduled elections an advance poll shall be scheduled on the second Saturday of July

What does this entail?

You are now permitted to deposit beach w**ds, and we emphasize this - beach w**ds only, at the designated lake access point located directly to the south of the Sunset Point boundary. This endeavor has been established with the primary focus on water w**d management.

🚨 IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please adhere strictly to the guideline specifying that only water w**ds are to be deposited in this area. Any deviation from this directive may lead to the termination of this trial initiative by Alberta Beach.
