👏 We want to say a huge THANK YOU to Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Society 👏

Going back almost 16 YEARS (!), this incredible organization, with the guidance of volunteers and staff, have made important contributions to several SCCSS programs, playing a key role in helping us distribute fresh produce to the community on a weekly basis 🍅🥕🥔🥬

Through our Food Security Program in particular, we’ve been able to deliver fresh produce at the Food Bank and Fresh Food for All Markets (among other programs), and for that we are so grateful!

Our Senior Food Program Assistant Aenny says:
“We are so grateful for their enthusiasm and extended knowledge around vegetables. Thanks to them we’ve been able to introduce people to new vegetables and educate ourselves as well as the community. They’ve provided us with handouts, veggie taste tests, and are working on getting recipes for us to hand out to participants. It goes way beyond just providing us with produce, they know how to get people excited about vegetables!”

Thank you for showing us the true impact of community connection. Because of you, dozens of families and individuals have been able to put fresh produce on their tables, which goes a long way towards a sustaining healthy and thriving Sunshine Coast.

Thank you for helping us open doors to hope ❤️

🤚🤚🤚 We’d like to say a great big THANK YOU to the Sunshine Coast Dragon Boat Club British Columbia 🐉⛵✨

The SCDBC recently donated $1418 and 284 non-perishable food items to the SCCSS Food Bank, and we are so grateful for this amazing community contribution ❤️

Club member Wendy had this to say:
“All 4 teams participated in the Food Bank Regatta! A mock dragon race run to collect donations for the Food Bank. The competition was fierce & they raised $1418 and collected 284 non-perishable items. The Sea Gals team took the competition seriously and won the race with the most donations. The club hopes to do this fun event again next year to support this worthy cause!"

It’s connections and contributions like these that really help our community thrive.

Thank you so much to the Sunshine Coast Dragon Boat Club, and best of luck to everyone in next year’s regatta!

👏 Thank you to Andreas and the Secret Cove Marina and Store! 👏❤️

Every year, these fantastic community members donate to the SCCSS Food Bank, contributing remaining stock from their store as summer comes to an end.

This incredibly generous donation amounts to around $1500 worth of perishable and non-perishable food and includes items like some amazing organic snacks and products, as well as all kinds of deli meats and frozen goodies.

This is an amazingly impactful and generous donation, and we are so grateful!

Thank you Secret Cove Marina & Store!

📢 Shoutout to our Food Security Program, as well as some amazing farmers, volunteers and community partners 🍅🥔🥬

Every summer for the past five years, they have been putting on an amazing Affordable Food Market with the help of volunteers (like Cole and Rafael who are pictured here) and SCCSS staff ❤️

Over the last 5 years, this market has grown faster than a well-watered cucumber plant. Beginning with only 12-14 weekly shoppers in 2021, an average of 55-65 people now utilize one of the three markets weekly during the season. The Fresh Food for All Market prioritizes SCCSS clients from multiple programs, bringing them together to shop, learn and connect. The market runs from summer solstice to Labor Day every week of the summer, rain or shine.

And through some amazing community partnerships with the likes of the Coast Botanical Garden, the Sechelt Garden Club, as well as purchasing contracts with four local farms, the SCCSS Food Program uses these markets to provide a diverse food access point, focused on locally grown, fresh produce at low cost to our community in Pender Harbour, Gibsons and Sechelt.

Fresh Food for All ❤️

🧡 On September 30, we join communities across Canada in recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This day honours the children who never returned home, Residential School Survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities. It is a time to reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools and the ongoing journey of reconciliation.

At SCCSS, we encourage our staff to take time to learn, listen, and reflect. We remain committed to fostering respectful, inclusive communities and to continuing our own journey of learning and reconciliation.

We would also like to remind everyone of shíshálh Nation's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation events, including the commemoration ceremony and Walk for Reconciliation, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Residential School Monument Site.
