🚛 Waste Collection Update – Town of Shelburne (South Side of King Street)

Due to an unexpected equipment breakdown, our collection crew has experienced delays with clear bag and organics collection on the south side of King Street.

Crews are working hard to get back on the road as quickly as possible.

If your waste has not been collected by 7:00 p.m. today (Thursday, August 6, 2026), please bring it back in overnight and place it back at the curb by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning (Friday, August 7, 2026) for collection.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding. Thank you!

♻️ Curbside Recycling Collection Update ♻️

Due to the recycling trucks reaching capacity yesterday, crews were unable to complete collection in the Churchover and Birchtown areas.

Collection will be completed this morning. If your recycling has not yet been picked up, please leave it at the curb until collection is complete.

📢 Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot – August 2026 ♻️

Need to safely dispose of household hazardous waste? Our HHW Depot at 243 Sandy Point Road will be open on the following dates in August:

Tuesday, August 4 (Please note: the depot would normally be open on Monday, August 3, but due to the holiday it will be open on Tuesday instead.)
🕘 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. & 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Monday, August 17
🕘 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. & 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Accepted items include:
🧴 Paint
🔋 Batteries
💡 Light bulbs
🛢️ Used oil & oil filters
🧪 Household chemicals

Those plastic plant trays from your flowers, vegetables, and garden plants are recyclable!

Once they're empty, simply give them a quick shake or rinse to remove any loose dirt and place them in your blue container bag.

Every item recycled properly helps keep valuable materials out of the landfill and gives them a chance to become something new. 🌎

🚨 Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Does NOT Belong at the Curb! 🚨

We continue to find Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) hidden in curbside garbage, and we want to remind everyone that this is extremely dangerous.

When your garbage is collected, the waste is compacted inside the collection truck. If hazardous materials such as chemicals, paints, fuels, batteries, or aerosols are hidden in your garbage, they can rupture during compaction, creating a serious risk of fire, explosion, or injury to our collection crews.

⚠️ Please do not place HHW or ANY aerosol cans (including non-hazardous aerosols) in your curbside waste at this time.

Instead, bring these items to our Household Hazardous Waste Depot:

📍 243 Sandy Point Road, Shelburne
🗓️ Open the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month (if the Monday is a holiday we will be open the next day, Tuesday)

By disposing of these materials properly, you're helping protect our collection crews, the public, and the environment. 💚

🚛 Garbage Collection Update – Wednesday, July 22, 2026
The recycling (blue bag) truck is running on schedule today.
The clear bag (garbage) and green cart (organics) collection is running behind as crews continue to recover from Monday's mechanical breakdown. They are working hard to catch up and get collection back on schedule as quickly as possible.
If your clear bags and/or green cart have not been collected by 6:00 p.m. this evening, please bring them back in and place them curbside again by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning (Thursday, July 23) for collection.
We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding while our crews work through these delays.

There have been a lot of curbside audits completed throughout Region 6 and one of the items noticed in the garbage was take out packaging so I thought this would be a good topic for What Goes Where Wednesday ♻

If it holds something, it goes with recyclable containers
Drink cups
Ice cream tubs
Takeout bowls
Burger or salad containers

If it's flat, it goes with paper and boxboard.
Paper bags
Flat paper wrappers
Paper sleeves

The recycling (blue bag) truck is running on schedule today.
