Municipality of Shelburne

Municipality of Shelburne Rich history, picturesque coastal setting, and friendly community: Welcome to Shelburne, Nova Scotia.

The rural Municipality of the District of Shelburne is a unique coastal community. We are rich in cultural, historic, economic, and natural diversity. Together with our diverse roots, fishing industries, small business economy, community services, and self-reliance we have shaped our character. Our municipality offers fine white sand beaches, a rugged coastline and headlands, wilderness, forests,

artisans, independent professional service businesses, and a diversified marine-focused economy. You can canoe or camp along our lakes and rivers, paddle or surf in the ocean, sail in our harbour, tee off at our spectacular 18-hole golf course, walk or ride our extensive trail system, or sit back and enjoy some bird watching. It is a quality of life that complements professionals, retirees, and working families' lifestyles.

June is Men’s Health Awareness Month — a time to encourage conversations about physical health, mental health, and overall well-being for men and boys in our communities.

This month serves as an important reminder of the value of regular checkups, healthy lifestyles, mental wellness, and supporting one another through open and honest conversations.

The Municipality recognizes Men’s Health Awareness Month and encourages everyone to take time to prioritize their health and support the well-being of family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues.

Together, we can help break down stigma and build healthier, stronger communities.

Following our June quarterly community healthcare meeting, we are pleased to share an update from Nova Scotia Health (NSH). The meeting brought together representatives from the region's five municipal units, healthcare partners, and other key community stakeholders.

The meeting featured positive updates and productive discussions focused on ongoing collaboration, recent improvements, and continued progress within our local healthcare system. Participants were encouraged by the shared commitment to strengthening healthcare services and responding to the evolving needs of our communities.

One particularly exciting update is that the new ultrasound machine is now fully operational, enhancing diagnostic services available locally.

We also received an update from the Municipality of Shelburne's Community Navigator regarding the accomplishments achieved over the past eight months through the Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment (OHPR) Fund. These initiatives have supported healthcare recruitment efforts and contributed to strengthening the healthcare community across our region.

We value the continued partnership between Nova Scotia Health, municipal leaders, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders as we work together to support accessible, reliable, and sustainable healthcare services for residents throughout the region.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped organize this wonderful event. It was a great opportunity to welcome newcomers, connect with neighbours from across our community, and celebrate the many cultures that make Shelburne County such a vibrant, diverse, and welcoming place.
