Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park Park Hours:
Starting Oct 16th to May 14th
OPEN WEEKENDS ONLY
9:00AM-3:00PM (last admission 2:00pm) Kids of all ages will enjoy the large playground.

The Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park is home to over 60 species of animals, mostly native to Canada with a few exotics. All of our animals cannot be released into the wild as they are either injured, orphaned, born in captivity, or otherwise imprinted on humans and reliant on our care. The wide walkways through the park are easily accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, giving everyone an opportunity to see and learn about our amazing wildlife. The Park is situated on 40 hectares (99 acres) of natural woodlands and wetlands housing our animals in large, natural enclosures along a 2km main walking trail. Interpretive signs throughout the park will tell you everything you need to know about our wildlife exhibits. The Park has been a popular tourist destination since the 1950s. Interpretive features in the Wildlife Station give a more in depth look at native birds, local habitats, and includes a working beehive. There is also a display featuring amazing photographs local photographers have captured of the park animals. Visit the Wetland Centre to discover the wonders of the wetlands. There are interactive displays, activities, and tanks of live wetland creatures like invertebrates, fish, amphibians, and reptiles. Walk the 1km wetland trail to explore a variety of wetlands as well as immersive features like a bird blind, boardwalks, and floating dock. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the 10-hectare picnic grounds, which has sheltered tables and toilets, plus lots of room for children and families to run and play. Look for the trail head to a 1.5km one-way hiking trail into the St Andrew’s Marsh for beautiful views of nature. Remember your day by picking up a souvenir at the seasonal gift shop or enjoy some ice cream or snacks from the seasonal canteen. A variety of educational programs and tours are available by booking, check out our website for more information. Check out our events to see if anything special is happening soon!

Treaty Day Feature, Celebrating Mi'kmaw History Month.

The Bear, Muin - "moo-in" 🐻🍂

This Treaty Day, we're excited to share some special news with our visitors by introducing our new yearling black bear cub, now on display at the park!
As part of Mi'kmaq History Month, weekly we will be highlighting one of our parks culturally significant animal species and sharing the important teachings and stories they hold within Mi'kmaw culture.

This week, we are featuring Muin (Bear), who carries the Sacred Teaching of Courage.

Of the Seven Sacred Teachings, which are connected to wisdom, love, respect, courage, honesty, humility, and truth, the bear represents courage.

This teaching reminds us that courage is not only about strength. It is also about respect, responsibility, and doing what is right, even when it is difficult. It takes courage to recognize that large, powerful animals have an important place on the land and that they deserve the space, understanding, and protection they need to thrive.

As you visit our newest resident, we invite you to reflect on the teaching of Muin and the courage shown every day in nature.

Our young female bear first came into our care as an orphaned cub. While off display, she had the opportunity to gain strength, develop confidence, and allow our staff to get to know her unique personality.

Now that she is a little bigger and ready for this next step, visitors can begin to see her in a temporary enclosure as she adjusts to life in the park and becomes familiar with the sights, sounds, and daily routines.

This gradual introduction is an important part of her journey. Over the coming months, we will begin planning for her future habitat, undertake enclosure improvements, and carefully develop an introduction plan before she eventually meets our longtime resident male bear.

Join us throughout Mi'kmaq History Month as we celebrate and learn about the cultural significance of the animals that call Sipekne'katik and Mi'kma'ki home, and the teachings they continue to share with us.

Wela'lin (Thank you) and Happy Treaty Day. 🧡🖤🐻🍂

🧡 Wear the Story. Support the Community. 🧡

This Orange Shirt design, created by Mi'kmaq artist Melissa White of Wallace Hills Reserve (Sipekne'katik), reflects the Indigenous tradition of storytelling through art.

From the artist:
“The symbols in this logo are to represent cohesiveness within Mother Nature. Every creature has a purpose, and nature is one of the most beautiful examples of harmony. I played on that by hiding a duck within the moose and an antler within the duck.”

Starting today, and throughout October, these shirts will be available in the Wetland Centre gift shop! Youth and Adult sizes available!

Your purchase makes a difference: 50% of profits support Sipekne'katik events and educational programming at the park year-round.

Pick up yours during your next visit and help celebrate Mi'kmaw History Month while supporting local artists and community initiatives.
