Calling all prospective candidates! The nomination period is now open for the 2026 general local election.📣

To submit your nomination package:
1️⃣Complete the package and collect two nominators eligible to vote in the election.
2️⃣Book an appointment with the Chief Election Officer to verify your nomination documents.

Documents must be submitted by 4 p.m. on September 11, 2026.‼️

The District of Sicamous will share a declaration of candidates following the close of the nomination period.

Be a voter this October! This fall, electors will vote to choose one mayor, six councillors and a school trustee who will shape our community. Candidates will be declared in September.🗳️

Voting is simple in the District of Sicamous. Here are three ways we’re making it easier to cast your ballot:
👉 No need to pre-register. All electors register at the time of voting.
👉 Choose from two in-person voting opportunities: advance voting on October 7 or general voting on October 17. Mail ballot voting is also available.
👉 Visit our one voting location at the Sek’emaws (Sicamous) Health Centre.

The Columbia Shuswap Invasive Species Society recently shared a media release about whirling disease in the Columbia River Watershed.

"To prevent further spread of all aquatic invasive species, water users are asked to "Clean, Drain, Dry" all types of watercrafts and associated gear before moving between water bodies.

‘Clean’ any debris, plant matter, and mud from boats and trailers.

‘Drain’ all water from holding tanks and compartments on land.

‘Dry’ all parts of your watercraft and gear completely, including waders, lifejackets, and water toys. The province recommends a minimum of 24 hours drying before entering another waterbody."

Following "Clean, Drain, Dry" protocols, pulling the plug when transporting watercraft and stopping at all watercraft inspection stations helps keep our lakes healthy.

✅ TUESDAY TRIVIA — ANSWER TIME!
The answer is 🅒 1871!
In August 1871, as a symbolic gesture that the railway would one day become a reality, Ed Mohun drove the first stake on the CP railway route in BC right here in Sicamous. The railway itself wouldn't be completed until 1885 — and the famous Last Spike was driven just 25 km east of Sicamous at Craigellachie on November 7, 1885, uniting Canada from coast to coast! 🚂🔨🍁

Tomorrow at committee of the whole, council will discuss the proposed Wildlife Attractant Bylaw. The proposed bylaw aims to protect public safety and reduce conflicts between people and wildlife.📣

"Wildlife" includes dangerous wildlife (prescribed by the Wildlife Act), raccoons, skunks, squirrels, mice, rats and other animals that may be drawn to attractants.⚠️

The bylaw would regulate how attractants such as garbage, compost, fallen fruit, birdseed and pet food are stored and managed throughout the community.✅

Everyone is invited to attend the committee of the whole discussion. Residents have an opportunity to speak at the end of the meeting.
