Set in 1962, this true-story drama follows the elite African-American pianist Dr. Don Shirley as he prepares for a concert tour through the racially divided Deep South. Recognizing the need for protection and navigation through the Jim Crow wilderness, he hires Tony Lip, a street-smart Italian-American bouncer from the Bronx. As they travel the mismatched duo must confront systemic racism, personal prejudices, and imminent danger. Through their shared trials on the road, their initial friction gives way to a profound, life-changing friendship.

This week's staff pick is The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigette Knightly.
It is a fantastical rom-com between an assassin and a healer of separate factions. I loved that it has fun magical tools based off of real historic medical equipment. Recommended for fans of fun and silly puns and witty banter.

Want to win a huge jar of lollipops? The last day for our scavenger hunt is this Saturday, August 22nd and then we will be drawing a winner. The object of the hunt is Bubbles, the bright yellow fish as seen in the picture, hidden around the juvenile section of the Sidney/North Saanich library. Do you think you can find them all? The winner will also receive a complimentary toothbrush and some strong encouragement to share with the entire family.

I found the Faraway Inn by Sarah Beth Durst, author of the Spellshop series, to be an entertaining and cozy young adult fantasy read full of surprises. The initial draw into the book was the beautiful page edge art, not quite judging a book by its cover, but by its edges.
Calisa, on summer vacation, escapes to her Great Aunt's Inn to recover from a recent breakup. She finds more than enough distraction and work as she is required to adapt to navigating responsibly through unimaginable situations with a fellow youthful employee and a newly adopted pet.
