๐ New Fireworks By-law Takes Effect September 17, 2026
The Municipality of Sioux Lookout has adopted a new Fireworks By-law to improve public safety, reduce nuisance noise, protect property, and help prevent wildfire risks within our community.
Consumer fireworks may be used without a permit only during the following date ranges:
โข Three days before and after Canada Day, June 28th through July 4th, inclusive
โข The Saturday immediately before or after the recognized Diwali celebration date of that year
โข New Year's Eve, December 31st
Fireworks are still allowed within the municipality outside of the three identified periods, with a permit. Permitted hours are from dusk (30 minutes after sunset) to 11:00 p.m., except New Year's Eve, when fireworks may be discharged from dusk to 12:30 a.m. on January 1.
Fireworks are not permitted during a Municipal Burn Ban, Restricted Fire Zone, Air Quality Health Index above 7, winds above 40 km/h, on Municipal property without a permit, within 4 metres of structures, fences or property lines, or in a manner that creates a danger or nuisance.
Firecrackers and sky lanterns are prohibited. Set fines may apply, and emergency response costs may also be recovered.
Please celebrate responsibly and help protect our neighbours, pets, property, and surrounding forests.
