⏰ No Time Change This Fall

Following announcements from the Province of Ontario and Minister Greg Rickford, communities in Northwestern Ontario's Central Time Zone west of the 90th meridian, including Sioux Lookout, will remain on Daylight Saving Time year-round effective November 1, 2026.

This means there is no need to turn your clocks back one hour this fall.

The change will keep communities in Northwestern Ontario aligned with Manitoba while maintaining the same winter time as the rest of Ontario.

⚠️ Please note that communities in Ontario's Eastern Time Zone will still "fall back" to Standard Time on November 1.

Not every disability is visible.

In fact, many disabilities can’t be seen at all. They can include chronic pain, limited flexibility or mobility, mental health conditions, and more. According to Statistics Canada, about 1 in 4 Canadians has a disability, and more than 741,000 working-age Canadians with disabilities who aren’t employed could be working in an inclusive, accessible labour market.

That means accessibility goes beyond removing physical barriers. It means addressing systemic and social barriers and creating real opportunities for people to contribute their skills, experience, and talents to the workforce.

In Sioux Lookout, the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (2021–2025) names employee recruitment and retention as a community priority and highlights the importance of support and resources for employees experiencing mental health challenges.

We believe accessibility and inclusion in the workplace are not a matter of compliance but of social responsibility. They are an investment in people, workforce participation, community well-being, and economic growth.

Pregnancy and infant loss are more common than many realize, with approximately 15% to 25% of pregnancies ending in miscarriage. These losses profoundly affect parents, families, and loved ones, leaving a lasting impact that is often unseen.

We remember and honour the babies gone too soon, acknowledge the grief experienced by bereaved families, and reaffirm our commitment to fostering compassion, understanding, and support within our community. 🕊️

The Springpole Gold Project, 140 km north of Sioux Lookout, has federal approval, with early construction expected in 12–18 months

One of Canada’s largest proposed gold and silver mines, located about 140 km north of Sioux Lookout, received federal environmental assessment approval on June 30, 2026. Early construction works are expected to begin within the next 12–18 months.

Many Northern Ontario employers know the challenge firsthand: finding skilled workers is hard and keeping them is even harder. This free workshop brings the experts to you, so you can get clear answers and practical next steps.

The Municipality of Sioux Lookout (Economic Development Office), in partnership with the Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce, invites local employers to an in-person information session featuring presentations from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Government of Ontario's Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) – Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).

The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is joining the Sioux Lookout OPP in reminding residents that election campaign signs are private property.

Damaging, removing, stealing, or otherwise interfering with election signs may constitute Mischief under the Criminal Code of Canada and may be investigated by police.

Everyone has the right to express their views and support the candidate of their choice. Differences of opinion should be addressed through respectful dialogue and, ultimately, at the ballot box, not through damage to property.
