⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

There are reports of scam text messages claiming to be about the The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB). The CGEB is a new federal program that replaces the GST/HST credit.

If you receive a text message saying you are eligible for a payment and asking you to click a link, do NOT click it.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) does not send text messages asking you to click a link to receive benefit payments or provide personal or banking information. Scammers often use these messages to steal your information.

Protect yourself:
• Do not click suspicious links.
• Do not provide personal or banking information.
• Delete the message.
• Verify benefit information through your CRA My Account or official Government of Canada websites.

If you think you may have responded to a scam message, contact the CRA and report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

🚶‍♀️ Community Walking & Mobility Initiative – Equipment Request

Slocan Valley Community Services is exploring a new community walking initiative to help mobility-limited seniors and community members get outside, stay connected, and enjoy fresh air and companionship.

We are currently looking for:

* Lightweight transport wheelchairs
* Foldable wheelchairs
* Walkers or mobility aids
* Donations of gently used equipment
* Community partners who may be able to help support the program

The goal is to have accessible mobility equipment available for walks along the waterfront and social connection opportunities in Slocan.

If you or someone you know has equipment that is no longer being used and would like to donate it to a meaningful local initiative, we would love to hear from you.

📣 If you, your parent, grandparent, or older loved one is on the Canadian Dental Care Plan and doesn’t really check email — this is important.

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) renewal deadline is Sunday, June 1 — just around the corner.

⚠️ Coverage does not automatically renew.

If renewal isn’t completed in time, coverage ends June 30 — with no grace period and no retroactive reimbursement. That means any dental care during a coverage gap would need to be paid out of pocket until a new application is approved.

If taxes haven’t been filed yet, that’s the first step — it’s often the biggest delay.

✅ Once everything is ready, renewal itself is quick (about 5 minutes) through your My Service Canada Account, or by calling Service Canada at 1-833-537-4342 (Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. local time).

Please share this with someone who may need the reminder 💙

📅 You have until June 1, 2026, to renew your CDCP coverage without experiencing gaps.

Here’s how ⬇️

📱 In My Service Canada Account: http://www.Canada.ca/msca

🖥️ Online at www.Canada.ca/dental

📞 By calling 1-833-537-4342 (TTY : 1-833-677-6262)
