Halloween Fireworks Reminder 💥🎃

As we celebrate this spooky season, please remember that fireworks and firecrackers are not permitted within the Town of Smithers unless you’ve obtained a permit from the Fire Chief (Bylaw No. 1609).

Fireworks can be dangerous; not only do they pose a fire and safety risk, but the loud noises can frighten pets, wildlife, and people in our community.

🎃👻 Halloween is just around the corner! 👻🎃

As little ghosts and superheroes get ready for a fun night of trick-or-treating, here are a few safety tips to keep in mind:

👣 Trick-or-Treating
Carry a flashlight and wear reflective clothing.
Walk—don’t run—and use sidewalks.
Only go to well-lit homes, and never go inside houses or vehicles.
Have an adult check candy before eating it.

🚗 For Drivers
Slow down and stay alert—kids may be crossing unexpectedly.

🏠 At Home
Keep walkways clear of obstacles.
Ensure your home is well lit if you’re welcoming trick-or-treaters.
Keep pets indoors and away from the door.

Smithers RCMP will be out in the community to help keep the night safe and enjoyable. Have a safe and spooky Halloween! 🎃

📢 Court Update: Guilty Verdict & Jail Sentence

We know this case has caused concern in the community and has led to conversations about crime and consequences.

At the end of October, we shared details in a post ‘Provincial funding boots RCMP efforts in arrest’ about a search warrant in Smithers. We can now provide a court update: the individual has been found guilty and remains in custody, serving their sentence. Their possible release date is scheduled for summer 2026.

Here is our original release from October:

📣 Smithers RCMP Community Update ‼️

✨ Proactive Policing + 🚔 Enforcement + 🎯 Training = Stronger Community

🔹 Search Warrant
Yesterday, Smithers RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on Astlais Place. A 45-year-old man was arrested. Because of concerns regarding fi****ms, additional police resources were present to ensure safety. If charges are approved by the BC Prosecution Service, we will share an update in a formal media release.

🔹 Fi****ms Training
Today, our members completed their fi****ms qualifications with the pistol, shotgun, and carbine. Training days like this ensure our officers remain skilled and prepared to respond safely in any situation. We are fortunate that our very own Acting Detachment Commander Sgt. Ryan Law is also a fi****ms instructor, and he led our team through the qualifications. Having these instructor-level resources embedded within our detachment strengthens our ability to serve the community.

🔹 Community Concerns
We know many in our community are concerned about the impacts of drugs and related crime. We will continue to do our part through proactive enforcement, prevention, and by working closely with local partners to address these challenges together.

🪔✨ Happy Diwali to all in our community who are celebrating today! Wishing you joy, peace, and light.
