Congratulations to Special Constable Steve Fleming on being selected by his peers as the Member of the Year for 2024 at the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Detachment.

During the voting process, his colleagues consistently highlighted words such as: “Positive,” “Efficient,” “Selfless,” “Helpful,” “Dedicated,” and “Diligent,” all of which eloquently capture the exceptional contributions Steve has made to our detachment and community. These descriptors reflect not only his professional excellence but also the profound personal impact he has on those around him.

Throughout his career with the OPP, he has continually exemplified the qualities of a true team player — both on and off duty. Whether as a colleague, mentor, or friend, Steve has consistently demonstrated compassion, understanding, and unwavering support. His work with the Court Bureau, deployed at the Cornwall Provincial Court, has exposed him to a variety of complex and high-pressure situations, and he has handled each with unmatched grace, professionalism, and dedication.

His commitment to the OPP and the values we hold dear—honor, service, and integrity—has made an indelible mark on our detachment. We are fortunate to have him as part of our team, and his contributions, both big and small, are a testament to his tireless efforts in making our community a safer place for all.

Thank you, Steve, for your hard work, dedication, and for being the incredible person we all admire. Your influence within this detachment is immeasurable, and we are proud to call you a member of our team.

On behalf of all the members of the SD&G Detachment, please accept our sincere congratulations.

Members of the Ottawa OPP and OPP TIME team were busy this weekend stopping vehicles that were not insured. The driver of the Bronco nearly faced a charge of Produce False Evidence for attempting to provide false proof of insurance. The penalty for that is $10,000. Just today, officers charged six drivers for not having insurance on their vehicles. The minimum fine upon conviction is $5,000. Since September 1st, this same OPP TIME team member has charged 51 drivers for not having insurance on their vehicles! If you can't afford to properly insure your vehicle, don't drive. You are putting yourself and other drivers at risk.

Would you be ready if you were stranded in your vehicle for one hour, 5 hours or more?
Have an emergency kit, including a flash light and batteries, a first aid kit, extra warm clothing, a blanket, water (even if it freezes) and non-perishable food. It’s also a good idea to have booster cables, sand or kitty litter (for traction), a small shovel, extra windshield washer fluid and an external battery for your phone.
Make sure to keep your gas tank as close to full as possible. If you are stopped with your engine running, ensure your exhaust pipe is clear of any snow.
