The 2026 Parcel Tax invoices will be arriving in your postal and email boxes today. The invoices are due by the end of the month, 31 October.

What is a Parcel Tax?
Each year the SWD charges two payments for each calendar year.
(1) A Water Toll invoice for all properties in the District that are connected to the water system and use water. This is an unmetered toll for water usage.
(2) A Parcel Tax for all properties that are contained within the boundaries of the District, regardless of whether they are connected to the water system or not. This ensures that all property owners in the District are contributing to the ongoing costs of maintaining the water system.

These charges are the only income the SWD receives for all operations, maintenance and upgrades to the water system. We receive no funding from any level of government, including Federal, Provincial or local. No taxes charged by the SWD are paid to the Province or Federal Government. We are also restricted from obtaining most grants and funding sources available to local governments for infrastructure upgrades or maintenance.

After obtaining final sign-off by the Engineer of Record in May and a program of flushing, disinfection and testing, we have received final approval from Island Health for the use of the new water main that runs from 2nd St, up 11th Ave to 3rd St, then back down12th Ave to 2nd St. The water water will be officially turned on this morning and customers are now able to connect their water lines to the new water main. Please co-ordinate with John Brunet for the switchover. Final statements and letters explaining the process will be sent out in the next week.
