Amazing day at the Emergency Preparedness Fair. We loved seeing your smiling faces, chatting in the sunshine🌞, and giving tours of our command vehicle.

Huge thanks to everyone who stopped by to learn about the 10 Essentials and what to do if you’re lost or injured outdoors. Those conversations are why we do this. 🫶

✨️Special shoutout to Westshore Parks & Rec for hosting us in their parking lot, the Seniors Centre for hosting some tables indoors as well as opening their cafeteria, and all our fellow Emergency Services who showed up to support the cause.

You all make this community safer just by being prepared. ❤️ Those conversations might save a life someday. That’s a win for us!

We've just learned of some great news! The Juan de Fuca Marine Trail is scheduled to reopen later this summer.

With limited recent use, expect some new hazards along the trail. Here's a few tips to help keep you safe on the trail:

• Take your time, watch your footing, and use extra caution when crossing obstacles

• Bring a power bank with enough charge in case your trip runs longer than planned

• Pack extra batteries for your headlamp

• Leave a trip plan with a responsible person, including check-in times (for example, when you set up camp each night)

• Carry bear spray—wildlife in the area isn’t used to frequent human activity.

• Check the BC Parks website for the latest trail updates and conditions.

Stay safe and enjoy the trail! (when it opens)

🌲 BC AdventureSmart Summer 2026 Expert Webinar Series 🌲

We’re back this summer with a new series focused on what it really takes to stay safe outdoors across British Columbia.

While some sessions spotlight Northern BC—where vast distances, remote terrain, and unique challenges shape search and rescue—this series reflects a province-wide approach to outdoor safety.

We’re bringing together SAR volunteers, outdoor educators, guides, data specialists, and community leaders to share real-world insights you can use.

🔥 This summer’s topics include:
• Distance, Darkness and Decision-Making
• Different Region, Different Rescue
• 73 Hours to Home (SAR case study)
• Seconds Matter: A Grizzly Encounter
• Your Group Matters: Skills Before SAR Arrives
• Navigation Skills: Maps, Compass & Tech
• Trip Planning That Works
• What BC SAR Data Tells Us

Whether you're hiking, paddling, hunting, fishing, mountain biking, or exploring with family, these sessions will help you stay prepared, confident, and safe—anywhere in BC.

April 19th – 25th is Volunteer Week, and we’re celebrating our incredible team - Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue.

Our 42 volunteers are on call 24/7, 365 days a year. Last year alone, we logged nearly 10,000 hours training and responding across 1,200+ sq km — from East Sooke to Port Renfrew and beyond.

As one of BC’s busiest SAR teams, we run specialty units from swiftwater rescue, ropes to e-bike and more! We also work to keep our community safe by teaching hikers to carry the essentials and leave a trip plan.

Thank you for supporting the volunteers who drop everything to bring others home.
