🚒 NOW RECRUITING: 2026–27 VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER RECRUIT CLASS

Are you ready to serve your community, build lasting friendships, and learn valuable emergency-response skills?

The Otter Point Volunteer Fire Department is accepting applications for our 2026–27 recruit class.

📅 Important Dates
• Applications open: August 26, 2026
• Application deadline: September 20, 2026
• Recruit assessment day: October 3, 2026
• Recruit training begins: October or November 2026 — exact date to be determined

No previous firefighting experience is required. We provide the training, support and practical experience you need, including firefighting, medical first response, vehicle rescue, wildland firefighting, driver and pump operations, and more.
Applicants must live within a 10-minute response to the Otter Point Fire Hall, hold a valid BC driver’s licence and be at least 19 years old when recruit training begins.

❤️ we are so grateful for all the support we receive from Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue ❤️

JdF Search and Rescue was proud to drop off a load of food donations to the Sooke Food Bank.

We’re incredibly grateful for the team at the Sooke Food Bank and the important work they do for our community every day. Supporting them is one more way we can show up for our neighbours.

We are so excited for this event

On October 3rd, Whiffin Spit will become the most magical spot in Sooke as Witches on Water takes to the water in support of the Sooke Food Bank.

🧹 Come dressed as your best witch, wizard or magical creature
🌊 Bring your paddleboard and join the fun or stay on land
📸 Costume judging and prizes
🏆 Paddleboard race at noon
🎉 Awards at 1 PM
☕ Warm drinks, community fun & plenty of witchy spirit!

Event Schedule:
10–11 AM – Check-in & registration
11–11:45 AM – Photos & costume judging
12 PM – Paddleboard race
1 PM – Awards

Join us for All Sooke Day on Saturday, August 15, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Fred Milne Park for a full day of family fun and community celebration.

Enjoy over 70 local vendors, delicious food trucks, three exciting logging shows, live music, a Kids Zone, a beer garden, and free traditional salmon BBQ tasting.

Admission is free, so bring your family and friends and celebrate everything that makes Sooke such a special place to call home.
