Not all of my book hunting has to do with finding first printings of first editions. Sometimes it’s merely just having the best edition you can get your hands on. Seen here is a BCE of the exorcist and an unknown printing of a book I love but did not own. The latter I picked up on a second visit to . Neither one is valuable, and I’m determined to upgrade them to something insurable.

After some time in the Rockies assisting a client with the stewardship and transition of their North American library and assets ahead of a move to France, it feels especially good to return to my own desk.

Waiting for me was the newest issue of The Private Library, the journal of the Private Libraries Association. This issue serves as a memorial to David Chambers (1930–2025) — printer, designer, and longtime editor whose work shaped the journal and the fine press world for decades.

In an age increasingly shaped by algorithms, the work of the private librarian remains deeply human: judgment, care, and an understanding that books and collections carry stories far beyond their shelves.
