South River Water Message

While the Village water remains safe and is meeting all health standards, we are investigating an increase in reports of persistent coloured water that began in May 2026. More extensive spring watermain flushing and swabbing may have disturbed additional iron deposits, but the exact cause of each incident this summer remains under investigation.

The Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) has proposed a six-month dispersive polyphosphate trial to the Ministry of the Environment. The proposed treatment is intended to minimize new mineral deposits and assist with existing deposits in older watermains. Approval is expected in the coming months.

Until the issue is resolved, residents should avoid washing laundry with visibly coloured water, as staining may occur. Run a cold-water tap for several minutes to see whether the water clears.

Please contact the municipal office whenever you experience coloured water or any other water-related concern. When reporting an issue, please let us know:

• When the coloured water began.

• Whether running the water helped clear it.

• How long it took for the water to return to normal.

• Whether the issue affected hot water, cold water or both.

Your reports help the Village identify patterns, track affected areas and support the ongoing investigation.

Get ready to move, have fun, and build confidence! Join us for a fun and exciting 8-class dance program led by Jillian Peever from The Space Upstairs. 🩰

These welcoming classes are designed to help children and adults build confidence, creativity, coordination, and a love of movement. Whether you're brand new to dance or looking to build on your skills, everyone is welcome!

The Village of South River is looking for election personnel to assist with the 2026 Municipal Election.

📅 Election Day: Monday, October 26, 2026
🕘 Hours: 9:30 a.m. until as late as 11:30 p.m.
🎓 Paid training: Thursday, October 22, 2026
💰 Pay: $25 per hour
✅ No experience required but previous election experience is an asset
Election personnel must be available for the full Election Day shift, including ballot counting and closing duties, as well as the mandatory paid training session.

🕺 Adult Dance (Ages 15+): $75 + HST / 8 classes

Spaces are limited to 15 participants per children’s age group. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Clouds and rain couldn't stop us.

Despite challenging weather conditions, participants traveled from multiple communities, stayed until the early hours of the morning, and enjoyed the Perseid Meteor Shower Stargazing Experience at Tom Thomson Park.

The support from our local businesses was equally inspiring. From astronomy-themed products and commemorative T-shirts to creative promotions, the community embraced this event in a truly meaningful way.

This event became much more than a night of stargazing. It became an example of how tourism, local businesses, volunteers, and community members can come together to create something special.

A heartfelt thank you to Corner Wines, Great Canadian Wilderness, Explore Almaguin, Crystal Cave Canada, Algonquin Motel, Northern Edge Algonquin, our volunteers, and every participant who joined us.

Together, we proved that a little cloud cover can't outshine community spirit.
