Elk Valley RCMP along with BC Highway Patrol and Police Dog Services conduct large scale check stop

On April 23, 2026, Elk Valley RCMP frontline members along with BC Highway Patrol officers and Police Dog Services conducted a check stop in Elkford on Fording River Rd.
Over 230 drivers were checked for sobriety through the use of approved screening devices with all drivers confirmed to be sober. Elk Valley RCMP February recap
From February 1-28, 2026 Elk Valley RCMP officers received 246 calls for service. Below are a few files that show the varied and challenging work done by our officers in the Elk Valley area.
On February 1, 2026 a local man was assaulted outside a local bar when he was struck in the face by his assailant. Frontline officers responded and were able to locate and arrest the suspect. The suspect was released on no contact conditions with charges forwarded by police to the BC Prosecution Service.
On February 7, 2026 a man was back country skiing in a remote area when he slipped and fell 150 metres down the hill sustaining numerous injuries. The skier was located by Fernie Search and Rescue and was turned over to BC EHS (Ambulance) for treatment and transport to Fernie hospital.
On February 8, 2026 Elk Valley RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a single vehicle. Frontline officers responded and through their investigation confirmed that the accident was caused as the driver was impaired. A criminal code impaired investigation is ongoing.
On February 10, 2026 an Elk Valley RCMP officer was conducting traffic patrols when he came across a driver on Highway 43 passing numerous vehicles at a high rate of speed and confirmed by radar to be going 157 km/h in the 90 km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted leading to numerous violation tickets as well as a one-week vehicle impoundment.
On February 27, 2026 another speeding driver passed a line of traffic with an Elk Valley RCMP officer at the head of the line. The driver was travelling at approximately 150 km/h and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver was confirmed to be impaired and so a driving prohibition was issued, the vehicle impounded, and numerous violation tickets were issued.
And we end the month of possibly the oddest call. On February 28, 2026 a train developed technical issues in the Aspen Dr area of Sparwood and its horn went off for approximately 20 minutes causing an understandable commotion. In the end it was simply a technical issue and the horn was silenced and the night got back on track.
