This photo was taken while clearing wet wipes from our wastewater equipment.

Unlike toilet paper, wet wipes do not break down in the sewer system and can cause costly blockages and repairs.

Even wipes labelled "flushable" should be placed in the garbage.

Mrs. Mackenzie’s Grade 3/4 Centennial '67 Public School - UCDSB class visited our office yesterday to share the results of an Earth Day cleanup project.

While cleaning local ball diamonds, students were concerned with the amount of cigarette butts on the ground. One student explained they cleaned up "what felt like thousands of cigarette butts. It was probably hundreds, but it felt like thousands."

The class came prepared with observations, questions, and ideas to help keep our community cleaner and safer. They discussed litter prevention, signage, volunteer involvement, and fire safety, and worked with Township staff to explore possible solutions. They'd like our community to know that kids use these spaces, and throwing cigarette butts on the ground is both a health and fire hazard.

There is more to come from this class and we’re proud to partner with them on next steps.

⚠️NOTICE OF SERVICE DISRUPTION⚠️

Due to unfolding traffic incidents on both Highway 2 and the 401, Brockville Transit has made the decision to temporarily pause the River Route service between Brockville and Cardinal effective immediately.

Earlier today, a tractor trailer accident closed Highway 2, our primary corridor. While attempting to detour via the 401, an additional accident has made it unsafe and impractical to maintain scheduled service.

As a result, the River Route will be suspended until Highway 2 reopens and it is safe to resume reliable service.

We appreciate the public’s understanding and patience as we prioritize passenger and operator safety. Updates will be provided as soon as service can resume.
