The Spruce Grove Firefighters Association represents the full time IAFF members of Spruce Grove Fire Services. We are proud to be a fully integrated Fire Department providing emergency response to over 30000 residents. The City of Spruce Grove provides two Advanced Life Support Ambulances to Alberta Health Services, along with an ALS Engine/Pump and ALS Ladder. Our fire apparatus consists of two f

ire/rescue engines/pumps, two ALS ambulances, one ladder truck and two wild land quick response units. As a membership we strive to achieve the NFPA standard of fire response. Over the last few years we've seen a steady increase in call volume, in the year 2011 we responded to approximately 3000 emergencies in our jurisdiction. In 2014 that number grew to 4900. Bringing us to date we responded to over 7000 calls in 2021

Actions speak louder than words.

Communities are told emergency care matters. We are told integrated Fire/EMS matters. We are told response times matter.

But decisions matter more than promises.
The choices being made today will shape the level of care our community receives tomorrow.

Protect the service before it disappears.

Neighbouring communities recognized the value of maintaining integrated ambulance services.

St. Albert recognized it.
Strathcona recognized it.

And many Spruce Grove residents continue to recognize it as well.

The question now is whether Spruce Grove Council is prepared to reconsider the long-term value of an integrated Fire/EMS model for our community.

The problem starts at the provincial level, but the impact is local.

Spruce Grove’s integrated Fire/EMS model is being forced apart because municipalities are stuck with broken and unsustainable provincial EMS contracts.

This isn’t just about one community. It’s about protecting fast, coordinated emergency care and stopping the loss of a system that works.

We need the Province to support integrated emergency services, not force communities to lower their standard of care.

Take 2 minutes to contact MLA Searle Turton and Minister Matt Jones. Tell them to protect Spruce Grove’s integrated Fire/EMS model.

For years, Spruce Grove’s integrated Fire/EMS model has delivered a proven, high standard of emergency response where firefighters and paramedics work together as one cohesive team.

On May 11, City Council voted to begin stepping away from this integrated model. But the bigger question is: why was our City forced into this position in the first place?

Unsustainable provincial EHS contracts and a lack of provincial support are putting municipalities in an impossible situation forcing communities to dismantle systems that work.

This raises serious concerns for residents:

Who will respond to these critical calls?

Will current response times be maintained?

How will an already strained provincial system absorb Spruce Grove’s emergency calls?

What is the transparent replacement plan?

This is not about the hardworking frontline paramedics across Alberta. They continue to do incredible work under immense pressure every day.

The concern is removing a proven local integrated service without clear answers or guarantees for residents.

Breaking apart a unified response creates fragmentation when seconds matter most.

We deserve clear answers. Our provincial representatives need to hear from us.

Do you support keeping integrated Fire EMS in Spruce Grove?

Moving away from Spruce Grove’s integrated Fire EMS model means dismantling a proven emergency response system that has served our community for more than 20 years.

Integrated services provide coordinated response, seamless communication, and faster collaboration between fire and medical crews when seconds matter most. Breaking apart this model lowers the standard of emergency response our residents have come to expect.

We urge Council to reconsider this decision and protect the integrated emergency service model that has served Spruce Grove so well.

Last night, City Council made the difficult decision to move away from Spruce Grove’s integrated Fire EMS service model.

For more than 20 years, dual trained professionals have responded to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and critical incidents as part of a coordinated emergency service model in our community.

While this decision marks the beginning of a significant transition, our commitment to serving Spruce Grove remains unchanged.

Most importantly, we want to sincerely thank the residents of Spruce Grove for the overwhelming support shown throughout this process. Your messages, advocacy, attendance at meetings, and continued support have meant more than words can express.

We will continue to serve this community with professionalism, compassion, and pride while advocating for sustainable emergency services moving forward.

For over 20 years, we’ve proudly delivered ALS-level EMS service to the Spruce Grove community.

Working alongside our integrated brothers and sisters, we’ve set the gold standard in cardiac care providing seamless response from first contact to definitive treatment.
Last year alone, we responded to over 8,000 calls without ever having our ambulances unstaffed. When staffing allows, we go even further by adding additional 3rd unit to better serve our community.

Committed. Ready. Here when you need us most
