Just a reminder that tomorrow is the first day of school!

There’s just something special about that first day. New backpacks packed, lunches made, first-day photos on the front step, and a whole mix of excitement and nerves as kids head out the door.

As a parent, I know how quickly these years go by. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were walking our own daughter into school for those first days, and now she’s starting university tomorrow. So to the parents sending a little one off for the very first time tomorrow, enjoy the moment, even if there are a few tears along the way. These days really do go by far too quickly.

To all of our students, I hope tomorrow is the beginning of a fantastic year. Be kind, look out for one another, try something new and make some great memories along the way.

And to our teachers, educational assistants, administrators and all of the staff who make our schools such special places, thank you. Thank you for the time, patience and heart you give to our kids every single day. Wishing you an amazing year ahead as well.

Finally, a reminder to all of us behind the wheel. School zones, sidewalks and crossings will be busy again tomorrow morning. Please slow down, give yourself a little extra time and keep your eyes open for those little ones making their way to and from school.

Have a wonderful first day, everyone. Here’s to a safe, happy and memorable school year!

Congratulations to the City of Spruce Grove’s senior leadership team as they are this years award winner for the ‘Dedicated Senior Team Award’.

This award recognizes an outstanding municipal team that demonstrates service excellence and dedication to municipal government.

I am so proud of our team- the senior leadership team has shown incredible leadership and we are incredibly lucky to have so many amazing leaders working for our city.

Led by CAO Dean Screpnek, the team includes GMs David Wolanski, Zeeshan Hassan, Candace Coughlan, Jamie Doyle and Gary Sandberg.

Congrats!!🎉

New crime statistics from the RCMP show that in 2025, Spruce Grove recorded its lowest amount of crime in over a decade.

The Crime Severity Index (CSI) measures not just how much crime is happening in a specific community, but what kinds of crimes are being committed and how serious they are. It looks at police-reported crime and gives a higher weighting to serious offences and a lower weighing to minor ones. Spruce Grove's CSI for 2025 was 73 - down from 79.1 in 2024 and the lowest value recorded since at least 2015!

Some of the factors contributing to Spruce Grove's CSI decrease from 2024 include:

▶️ 53 fewer break and enters (-4.9 CSI)
▶️ 68 fewer fraud charges (-2.6 CSI)
▶️ 45 fewer vehicle thefts (-1.6 CSI)

Spruce Grove's 2025 CSI value is 17.6 points lower than the overall provincial value of 90.6. CSI values for 2026 will be released in July 2027.
