Our Alberta Day celebration continues this evening (Aug. 29) and the next duck herding demonstration goes at 6:30 p.m.!

🎵 Plus, catch a musical performance by country recording artist Jordyn Pollard at 7:30.

🎞️ And be sure to bring your lawn chair and blanket for our movie in the park which starts at 9!

Tomorrow’s the big day! We’re stuffing a Spruce Grove Transit bus with donations of new school supplies for local students in need – and we need your help!

🚌 Head to Staples at Westland Market Mall and look for the transit bus parked out front. We’ll be accepting donations of new school supplies from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Most needed school supply items:
➡️ Backpacks, pencil cases/boxes
➡️ Pencils, pens, erasers
➡️ Crayons, pencil crayons, highlighters, and markers
➡️ Binders, dividers, paper, notebooks and duotangs
➡️ Scissors, glue sticks and rulers

All donations collected in Spruce Grove stay in the Tri Region to support students at Parkland and Evergreen School Divisions.

🚸Students are heading back to class and that means school zones in Spruce Grove will soon be in effect!

Drivers: watch out for pedestrians and slow down in school and playground zones. The maximum speed limit in school zones is 30 km/hr on school days from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

There are seven school zones in Spruce Grove, located at:
• King Street adjacent to Brookwood School
• King Street adjacent to Woodhaven Middle School
• Pioneer Road near the Prescott Learning Centre
• Greystone Drive between Grove Drive and Greenwood Drive
• McLeod Avenue adjacent to École Broxton Park School
• Weston Drive adjacent St. Joseph Catholic School
• Grove Drive adjacent to Copperhaven School

We’re throwing a family-friendly Alberta Day party at Central Park to celebrate our great province’s 121st birthday - and you’re invited!

🎈 Join us TOMORROW, Saturday, August 29 from 5-8 p.m. for live musical entertainment, a duck herding demonstration, games and activities, food vendors and more!

We planned to wrap up the underground infrastructure work on King Street in time for the new school year, but we all know how Mother Nature feels about the best laid plans! 🌧️

The wet and rainy weather earlier this month caused a delay in construction, which unfortunately will extend the associated road closures into September. That means King Street from Brookside Avenue to Wellington Crescent will remain closed to traffic for the first two weeks of school.

✅ The good news: the intersection at Brookside Avenue will be reopened tomorrow (Aug. 29) and the closed section of King Street is expected to be fully reopened by Monday, Sept. 14.

Brookwood and Woodhaven parents, please plan to use an alternate route for the first couple of weeks and remember to leave extra time when dropping off and picking up kids from school. Thanks for your patience!

Like many municipalities, the City of Spruce Grove has seen an increase in the use of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) such as e-scooters, electronic skateboards, hoverboards, and e-bikes, and heard related concerns and complaints from residents related to their use on trails and roads.

Additionally, there are challenges related to enforcement due to a lack of clarity on PMDs in the Province’s Traffic Safety Act. This has made it difficult for municipalities to effectively regulate and enforce the use of PMDs, and it raises safety and enforcement challenges with respect to speed, helmet use, age restrictions, parking, and defining where PMDs are permitted to operate.

To help address this concern, Spruce Grove City Council is taking the lead on sponsoring a resolution on the regulation of PMDs which will be considered by the membership at the Alberta Municipalities convention in Edmonton in September.

The proposed resolution requests that Alberta Municipalities advocate to create clear, consistent rules across Alberta for using devices like e-scooters and e-bikes, while still allowing municipalities to enforce their own bylaws. A shared set of provincial guidelines, developed with municipalities and based on best practices, would help ensure these devices are used safely and in a way that meets local community needs.

“We are looking forward to bringing this resolution forward and asking for the support of other member municipalities on this important issue,” said Mayor Jeff Acker. “We have heard concerns from many in our community related to public safety, and the need for fair and consistent rules and regulations to support proactive enforcement of PMDs. We are hopeful this resolution will pass to ensure this important issue continues to be raised with the Province."

The City of Spruce Grove is committed to caring for Pioneer Cemetery as a peaceful, well-maintained place where families can honour and remember their loved ones.

To help preserve the cemetery’s serenity, and in keeping with the City’s Cemetery Bylaw, scheduled site maintenance and cleanup has been scheduled for Oct. 30, 2026.

Some items, while placed with love, are not permitted because they can create maintenance barriers, safety concerns, or pest issues, or may be blown into surrounding areas, causing hazards or litter. This includes items such as fences or railings, landscaping, mementos, and furniture.

As part of the cleanup, non-permitted items will be carefully removed. If you have placed any non-permitted items on cemetery grounds, please collect them for safekeeping before Oct. 30. Uncollected items will be respectfully catalogued, collected, and stored at a City facility until Oct. 30, 2027.
