🚤 Water Rescue Training Night 🌊

This week, members took part in a hands-on water rescue training session, practicing multiple rescue techniques using both our Zodiac and rescue boat.

Our first victim, Che, gave us two very different scenarios to work through. First, he played a conscious victim using a life preserver, and then an unconscious victim requiring members to safely recover and lift him from the water. Che played the role exceptionally well and kept everyone laughing throughout the evening!

We then moved on to our rescue boat, where Tanisha and Dawson bravely volunteered as our victims. Despite the cold water and no rescue suits, they helped provide realistic training opportunities for our members. One of the major advantages of our rescue boat is its open-sided design, which allows rescuers to lift victims directly onto the boat without sidewalls getting in the way—making recovery faster, safer, and more efficient.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and participated, especially Che, Tanisha, and Dawson for braving the cold water to help make the training as realistic as possible.

Training like this helps ensure our members are prepared when seconds count. Great job by everyone involved—it was an excellent evening of learning, teamwork, and a few laughs along the way! 👏🚒

We were pleased to welcome Mme. Holly’s Grade 3/4 class to the St. Peter’s & District Volunteer Fire Department for a tour of the fire hall!👩🏼‍🏫✏️📚

Visits like these are an important part of what we do. They give children the opportunity to see our equipment up close, learn about fire safety, and understand that firefighters are here to help when people need us most. We also want children to become familiar with firefighters in their gear so they know there is nothing to be afraid of if they ever encounter us during an emergency.

The students had a chance to explore our trucks, see some of the tools we use, and learn about the many ways firefighters serve and protect our community.

A special thank you to Sgt. Brad Kelly of the Richmond County RCMP for stopping by with a police cruiser and taking the time to speak with the students. The kids were excited to check out the cruiser and learn more about the role police officers play in keeping our communities safe.

Thank you to Mme. Holly, her students, and Sgt. Kelly for making it a great morning. We always enjoy sharing what we do and helping build positive relationships with the young people in our community! 🚒🚔

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms out there — especially the moms behind our firefighters. ❤️🚒

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and ability to pause supper, save dessert, or explain to everyone why we suddenly disappeared when the tones dropped. We know family gatherings, holidays, and special moments don’t always go as planned when you love a firefighter.

Thank you for the late-night phone calls, the interrupted meals, the missed movies, and for never complaining too much when we have to run out the door mid-conversation.

Behind every firefighter is a mom (or wife, grandmother, or mother figure) who learned long ago that “I’ll be right back” sometimes means a little longer than expected.

Today we celebrate YOU — the ones who support us, worry about us, and love us anyway.

From all of us at St. Peter’s & District Volunteer Fire Department, Happy Mother’s Day! 🌷

One of the unique parts of being in the fire service is getting to witness things most people never get to see up close. After responding to a recent call, our members had the opportunity to watch a cormorant helicopter take off as they responded to the same incident. It was an impressive sight and a reminder of how many moving parts can come together during an emergency response.

Calls like this highlight the importance of multiple-agency response and mutual aid. Fire departments, EHS, air support (like JRCC), police, and other emergency services all play a critical role in ensuring the best possible outcome for those in need. Working together, communicating effectively, and supporting one another is what emergency response is all about.

Most importantly, we are happy to report a positive outcome from the call. Thank you to everyone involved for their professionalism, teamwork, and dedication.

Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, we take a moment to recognize the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of firefighters everywhere.

We are incredibly proud of our amazing team—men and women who step up without hesitation, train hard, and serve our community with heart. Whether it’s answering calls at all hours, supporting one another, or putting safety first, their commitment never goes unnoticed.

Thank you for everything you do. 🚒🔥

🚨 Weekend one in the books! 🚨

Some of our members took part in the first of two weekends of Pumper Operations training right here at the fire hall led by Sustainable Training Solutions - STS

From mastering pump panel operations to understanding water supply and flow, this course is all about building the knowledge and confidence needed to operate safely and effectively on the fireground. Every k**b turned and every line charged comes with responsibility—and training like this ensures we’re ready when it matters most.

Safety is always our top priority. The more we train, the better we protect not only our community, but each other.

A big thank you to everyone who led, participated and committed their time this weekend! 🚒💪

Future firefighter in training 🚒👶🏻

We always say you’re never too young to start learning the ropes… and this little recruit is taking that seriously! He’s already checking out the trucks and getting a feel for the driver’s seat.

No turnout gear yet—but give it time! For now, we’ll stick to smiles, truck, lights and siren fascination, and maybe a few snack breaks between “calls.”

All jokes aside, it’s moments like this that remind us how important it is to inspire the next generation. Who knows… in a few years, we might be handing him a helmet instead of a toy truck. 🚒💪🏻
