Last week we were fortunate enough to take part in the PARTY program for the highschool students in town along with our fellow emergency and life care services. Although this was a Mock incident, it was very well organized and handled from the first meeting right through the ex*****on day for the whole event. We hope the program will stick and help the students make the right decisions along the way.
It couldnt have been done without great collaboration between Sask Health’s addiction counselling, the school staff, Westmed Paramedics, RCMP, Generation’s funeral Home, the actors, the makeup crew, the school staff, our retired Coroner Jim, the health complex and staff, Lyle for crushing and moving the vehicles for the scene, the vehicle donations for the scene and anyone that had a hand in making the wheels turn for this great program! Last but not least, our firefighters that took time off work/commitments to be available for the scenario… thank you!!

Happy to be knocking back the fire ban a level so everyone can hopefully enjoy a campfire this long weekend, or as it looks more so to need the campfire to survive the cold on the long weekend…

We would like to just to post a friendly reminder that should you come upon a fire that no one is around and appears to not be controlled or if there is a fire ban on, Please call 911 directly and not a local firefighter. We are dispatched through PECC (911), so when calling a local fire fighter, it actually slows the process down of an alert being sent to the whole department to get our wheels turning! Please like and share to get the word out!

Today just after 4pm, we were dispatched for fire alarms ringing in town. Members responded to scene and found it to be a cooking incident that set the alarms off, but all was well except the cookies that had a gained a little more crunch to them. Thank you to our members that were able to respond!

Last night around 22:15, we were dispatched for a potential structure fire within town at a hotel building. Twelve members initially responded with units to find everyone evacuated and safe. Upon size up and entry, it was deemed someone had thrown a smoke bomb into the building then left, causing the alarms to be set off. Rcmp have taken over and are actively investigating this incident.
We would like to thank Westmed for sending an Ambulance quickly to be on stand by for our team should we have encountered a working fire. We would like to thank RCMP for their quick response!
Thank you to our members that jumped into action to go help our community!

🌱 Spring is here… and so is wildfire season. 🔥

The RM of Mervin No. 499 is reminding residents that conditions can change quickly, and wildfires can start and spread faster than you think.

✅ Were you approved for a burn permit?
If you received approval from September/October 2025 to April 30, 2026, please return to your burn site and physically check the area to ensure there are no remaining hot spots or hazards.

⚠️ Stay Fire Smart:
• Dry grass, leaves, and wind can turn small sparks into major fires
• Wildfires can happen anytime, anywhere

🛑 Do your part:
• Be Aware – Know current fire danger and restrictions
• Be Prepared – Clean up dry debris around your property
• Use Equipment Safely – Follow instructions and keep equipment maintained

💬 We all have a role to play — together, we can prevent wildfires.

🔥 Wildfires don’t wait. Neither should we.
👉 Be prepared. Be responsible. Be fire smart.
