⚠️ **PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE – STAY AWAY FROM DITCHES AND DRAINS** ⚠️

Due to the recent heavy rainfall and ongoing flood conditions, water levels in municipal ditches, drains, and waterways are extremely high and flowing rapidly. These conditions create dangerous currents, unstable banks, and hidden hazards beneath the water's surface.

Residents are urged to stay away from all ditches, drains, culverts, and flooded areas. Parents are asked to ensure children do not play near waterways, flooded roads, or drainage channels. Pet owners should also keep their animals away from these areas.

Even shallow moving water can be extremely dangerous. Please exercise caution and avoid all unnecessary travel through flooded areas.

The RM of St. François Xavier thanks residents for their cooperation as we continue to monitor conditions and respond to this flooding event.

We would agree with the Niverville and Steinbach Fire Departments, PLEASE DON’T BURN WITH THESE WINDS!

We would agree with the Niverville and Steinbach Fire Departments, PLEASE DON’T BURN WITH THESE WINDS!

To quote Niverville Fire Chief Bueckert “anyone who lights a fire today is an idiot”. We encourage everyone to refrain from lighting any fires when winds are above 25 km/h, never mind these gusting winds we have been having lately. Please make smart decisions. Dispose of cigarette butts in appropriate containers. Do not butt out ci******es into potted soil/planters or near recycling/garbage bins.

Move right when you see lights! An ambulance, firetruck or police vehicle are considered emergency vehicles. If one of them is approaching from any direction, you must yield right-of-way. Immediately clear your vehicle from an intersection and allow others to do so as well. Once clear, if you are on an undivided roadway, you need to move your vehicle to the right edge of the road and stop until the emergency vehicles have passed. If you are on a divided roadway, and the emergency vehicle is on the other side, proceed with caution, as the emergency vehicle may have to turn at any moment.
