Exercise Island Warrior 2026
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, members of RNFLDR participated in live-fire training during Exercise Island Warrior 2026 at CFB Gagetown. The training enabled the unit to meet its annual Individual Battle Task Standards (IBTS) live-fire requirements. Through live-fire section and platoon attacks, soldiers strengthened their tactical skills and operational readiness in preparation for future exercises and operations.

Durant la fin de semaine de l’Action de grâce, des membres du RNFLDR ont participé à un entraînement au tir réel dans le cadre de l’exercice Island Warrior 2026 à la BFC Gagetown. Cet entraînement a permis à l’unité de satisfaire aux exigences annuelles de tir réel liées aux normes individuelles d’aptitude au combat (NIAC).Grâce à des attaques au tir réel au niveau de la section et du peloton, les soldats ont renforcé leurs compétences tactiques et leur état de préparation opérationnelle en vue de futurs exercices et opérations.

EX TACTICAL CAMBRAI

Over the weekend of 18-20 September, members of the 1st Battalion, Royal Newfoundland Regiment completed Exercise Tactical Cambrai, serving as the unit's first dismounted infantry operation of the training year.

The members of 1st Battalion acted with extreme resolve, traversing harsh forest and bog whilst also being able to complete their objectives to aid their operational readiness. The exercise concluded with the collaboration of 37 Combat Engineer Regiment / 37e Régiment du génie du combat, with their assault boat expertise and training.

EXERCICE TACTICAL CAMBRAI

Durant la fin de semaine du 18 au 20 septembre, des membres du 1er Bataillon du Royal Newfoundland Regiment ont complété l'exercice Tactical Cambrai, qui constituait la première opération d'infanterie démontée de l'unité pour l'année d'instruction.

Les membres du 1er Bataillon ont agi avec une extrême détermination, traversant des forêts et des tourbières difficiles tout en réussissant à accomplir leurs objectifs afin de maintenir leur état de préparation opérationnelle. L'exercice s'est conclu par une collaboration avec le 37 Combat Engineer Regiment / 37e Régiment du génie du combat , mettant à profit leur expertise et leur entraînement en matière d'embarcations d'assaut.

In the waning light at Beaumont-Hamel, the shadows of tragedy meet the resolve to remember. 🎥

​To mark the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel, Veterans Affairs Canada led the unveiling of the replica Danger Tree.

​Musicians from The Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band, representing 37 Canadian Brigade Group, were honoured to support the ceremony as part of the CJOC-led CAF task force, standing alongside our French allies.

​On July 1, 1916, the original tree marked the furthest point of advance into a storm of enemy fire. Of the 800 Newfoundlanders who moved forward that morning, only 68 answered roll call the next day.

​Recreated by Memorial University and Veterans Affairs Canada, this symbol stands once more—bridging past sacrifice and present remembrance.

​Les musiciens de la Musique du Royal Newfoundland Regiment, représentant le 37e Groupe-brigade du Canada, ont eu l’honneur d'appuyer la cérémonie au sein de la force opérationnelle des FAC dirigée par le COIC, aux côtés de nos alliés français.

​Le 1er juillet 1916, l’arbre original marquait le point de progression le plus éloigné sous un feu ennemi nourri. Sur les quelque 800 Terre-Neuviens qui se sont élancés ce matin-là, seuls 68 ont pu répondre à l’appel le lendemain.

​Recréé par l’Université Memorial et Anciens Combattants Canada, ce symbole se dresse de nouveau — unissant les sacrifices du passé au devoir de mémoire d’aujourd’hui.

Army Reservists in Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick are back in the thick of the training year.

Units from across Newfoundland such as 1st Battalion The Royal Newfoundland Regiment 2nd Battalion / 2e Bataillon, The Royal Newfoundland Regiment 37 Combat Engineer Regiment / 37e Régiment du génie du combat and 35 Field Ambulance / 35e Ambulance de Campagne trained in the Clarke’s Beach area last weekend, honing skills vital to defending their fellow Canadians. Their professionalism, dedication and adventurous spirit were on full display.

ARV Weekend!

Over the Weekend of 12-13 September, the 1st and 2nd Battalions of The Royal Newfoundland Regiment gathered together to complete their Annual Readiness Verification . This included swim and Fitness testing, lectures from Garrison, as well as refreshing the troops on various CAF policies and standards.

Simultaneously, on the night of the 13th, the 1st and 2nd Battalions gathered for a ceremonial Mess Dinner for the first time in decades, demonstrating that together, we are Better Than The Best.

Fin de semaine de la RVA !

Durant la fin de semaine des 12 et 13 septembre, les 1er et 2e bataillons du Royal Newfoundland Regiment se sont rassemblés pour compléter leur vérification annuelle (RVA). Cela comprenait des tests de natation et d'aptitude physique (FORCE), des conférences de la garnison, ainsi qu'une mise à niveau des troupes sur diverses politiques et normes des FAC.

Simultanément, dans la nuit du 13, les 1er et 2e bataillons se sont rassemblés pour un dîner de mess cérémoniel pour la première fois en décennies, démontrant qu'ensemble, nous sommes Better Than The Best.

Today!

The Arts and Culture Centre in St. John's, The Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band will be taking the stage with The Stadacona Band of the Royal Canadian Navy.

For the first time in over a decade, The Stadacona Band will be travelling across the island, performing in Gander and Corner Brook!

This free concert series is sure to have something for everyone; consider coming out to support The Stadacona Band on tour and to support The Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band in St. John's.

Join us in welcoming 1st Battalion's newest qualified Infantry Officer 2LT Bowes!

The 2LT Completed the Dismounted Infantry Platoon Commander Course (DIPC) which qualified officers to lead an infantry r***e platoon through offensive and defensive operations. Candidates are accessed on deliberate and hasty assaults as well as occupation routine and withdrawals from a defensive position. The course remains one of the most challenging in the CAF. As part of this course, 2LT Bowes completed AFFRSO (Army Field Firing Range Safety Officer) which instructs candidates on how to plan and conduct and take part in complex ranges up to Live fire Platoon attack.

Throughout the course 2LT Bowes showcased grit and service before self demonstrating what it means to be Better Than The Best.

Joignez-vous à nous pour souhaiter la bienvenue au plus récent officier d'infanterie qualifié du 1er Bataillon, le sous-lieutenant (S. Lieut) Bowes !

Le S. Lieut Bowes a complété le Cours de chef de peloton d'infanterie démontée (DIPC), lequel qualifie les officiers à diriger un peloton de fusiliers d'infanterie lors d'opérations offensives et défensives. Les candidats sont évalués sur les attaques délibérées et hâtives, ainsi que sur les routines d'occupation et les replis à partir d'une position défensive. Ce cours demeure l'un des plus exigeants des Forces armées canadiennes (FAC). Dans le cadre de ce cours, le S. Lieut Bowes a également complété la formation d'officier de sécurité des champs de tir de campagne de l'Armée (AFFRSO), qui enseigne aux candidats comment planifier, diriger et participer à des champs de tir complexes allant jusqu'à l'attaque de peloton à tir réel.

Tout au long du cours, le S. Lieut Bowes a fait preuve de cran et a placé le service avant soi-même, démontrant ainsi ce que signifie l'expression Better Than The Best.

Inspired by the historic repatriation of Newfoundland’s Unknown Soldier, Private Dawe set out to honour that legacy through service. Follow his journey through the high-stress drills, late-night camaraderie, and physical trials of Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) as he keeps that initial spark alive all the way to earning Top Candidate!

Inspiré par le rapatriement historique du Soldat inconnu de Terre-Neuve, le soldat-recrue Dawe s'est engagé afin d'honorer cet héritage par le service. The Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band was honoured to take part in the unveiling ceremony for the new war memorial in Freshwater on August 9th.

Erected in grateful remembrance of all those who served in past conflicts and in memory of those who gave their lives, this monument will be a gathering place for the local community to join in acts of remembrance.

La Musique du Royal Newfoundland Regiment a eu l’honneur de participer à la cérémonie de dévoilement du nouveau monument commémoratif de guerre à Freshwater, le 9 août.

Érigé en hommage reconnaissant à toutes celles et tous ceux qui ont servi lors des conflits passés, et à la mémoire de celles et ceux qui ont donné leur vie, ce monument sera un lieu de rassemblement où la communauté locale pourra se réunir pour poser des gestes de commémoration.
