⚠️Traffic Advisory – Major’s Path Closed Near Portugal Cove Road Roundabout Overnight October 8

To facilitate surface asphalt paving near the Portugal Cove Road roundabout, Major's Path will be closed between Airport Road and the roundabout from 8 p.m. Thursday, October 8, to 6 a.m. Friday, October 9.

Traffic travelling west on Major’s Path towards the roundabout will be detoured via Airport Road and Craig Dobbin’s Way.

Traffic travelling to Major’s Path will be detoured via Chinook Lane.

Detour signage will be in place. Please follow all posted signage, barricades and directions from on-site personnel.

📢 Public Notice: Telecommunications Equipment Installation

The City of St. John’s has received a referral requesting concurrence for upgrades to an existing telecommunications tower site at 358 Blackhead Road.

📡 Proposed work by TEP Engineering Canada, on behalf of Eastlink, includes the installation of a new telecommunications antenna on the existing tower, a new equipment shelter near the tower base, and an extension of the existing security fence with a new access gate.

⚠️Traffic Advisory – Airport Heights Drive Detour, Southbound Portugal Cove Road Closure Overnight October 7

Overnight work continues this week to facilitate surface asphalt paving near the Portugal Cove Road roundabout.

From 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, to 6 a.m. Thursday, October 8, the following road closures will be in effect:
➡️ Airport Heights Drive: Closed between Hall’s Road and the roundabout
➡️ Portugal Cove Road southbound: Closed between Seminole Drive and the Trans-Canada Highway

Traffic travelling to and from the Airport Heights Drive area will be unable to enter or exit via the roundabout and will be detoured via Viscount Street.

Southbound traffic on Portugal Cove Road, heading toward the Trans-Canada Highway, will be detoured via Craig Dobbin’s Way, Airport Road, Major’s Path, Torbay Road and the Trans-Canada Highway.

Northbound traffic on Portugal Cove Road will maintain access through the roundabout and to Major’s Path. Traffic exiting Major’s Path will only be able to turn right onto northbound Portugal Cove Road.

Additional work is scheduled to take place near the roundabout on Major’s Path overnight on Thursday, October 8. More information about this work will be shared separately.

⚠️ Traffic Advisory - Changes Coming to Intersection of Goldstone Street, Thorburn Road and Seaborn Street

Work at the intersection of Goldstone Street, Thorburn Road and Seaborn Street is expected to be completed on Thursday, October 8, weather permitting. New traffic changes will take effect once the work is complete.

The main change is new flashing green arrows for left turns onto Goldstone Street and Seaborn Street. Drivers may turn left only when the flashing green arrow is displayed.

There will also be some changes to the lanes:
➡️Westbound Thorburn Road: Two lanes will be for left turns onto Goldstone Street, with one lane for through traffic toward the Trans-Canada Highway.
➡️Eastbound Thorburn Road: One lane will be for left turns onto Seaborn Street, with two lanes for through traffic toward the Avalon Mall.

Please watch for the new traffic signal operation and signs when driving through the intersection.

These changes will help improve traffic flow and safety.

Pitts Memorial Drive will be closed in both directions between Heavy Tree Road and the Bay Bulls Overpass from Friday evening, October 9, to midday Monday, October 12, for culvert replacement as part of a provincial construction project.

Pitts Memorial Drive will be closed in both directions from Friday evening, October 9, to midday Monday, October 12, to allow for the replacement of a culvert as part of an ongoing construction project.
