Thank you so much to summer Tour Guides Sadie and Jack who wrapped up their summer with Government House on Friday. Our tour guides share the history and heritage of the House with visitors from all over.

Free public tours of Government House will continue through August 26. Tours are available weekdays 9:00am to 3:30pm and are subject to events taking place inside. An appointment is not required but availability can be confirmed by calling 709-729-2669.

August 9 is National Peacekeepers' Day.

Government House flags have been flying at half-mast today to honour members of the Canadian Armed Forces, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, provincial and municipal police forces, Canadian diplomats and civilians who have all worked in support of peacekeeping missions.

Today we recognize, honour, and thank those who deploy to bring peace.

After sunset, Government House will light up in United Nations blue to recognize National Peacekeepers' Day.

The 2026 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games are on!

Around 1500 athletes will participate this week in a variety of competitions in Corner Brook and surrounding area. It is the 50th anniversary of the first Games which took place in Corner Brook and Stephenville in 1976.

Saturday night at the Opening Ceremony, Her Honour spoke to the athletes and guests, wishing everyone a good week of friendly competition, making memories and making friends.

At the closing ceremony, the region that best exemplifies friendly competition and sportsmanship will be awarded the Lieutenant Governor's Award.

Congratulations to all the athletes for qualifying to attend the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers for everything you are doing to make these games an incredible week for the athletes.

This week during select nights of the Games, Government House will light up in red and orange.
