One year ago today, Tony Wakeham launched his election campaign with a promise that every Newfoundlander and Labradorian would have a say on any new deal on Churchill Falls and Gull Island.
A year later, it’s nothing but a broken promise among others.

Premier Wakeham said he “has secured the ability to transmit power from Churchill Falls and Gull Island through Quebec to the U.S. marketplace”

That’s not true.

Former PUB Chair David Vardy told CBC News the new deal only “maintains our current status” and we are NOT wheeling more power through Quebec.

Tony Wakeham broke his promise about the referendum.
He removed the escalator clause.
He removed market-based pricing.
And now he’s not being honest about transmission through Quebec.

Is this really a better deal? Or is it 1969 all over again?
