đŸ”„ Local 1075 Attending the 58th IAFF Convention đŸ”„

First and foremost, as we attend this convention, we remember our fallen Brothers:

Craig Quigley, Jimmy O’Toole, and Kevin Pittman.

We carry their memory with us and remain committed to honouring their service, sacrifice and lasting contributions to Local 1075.

Members of Local 1075 are currently in Arlington, Texas, representing our membership at the 58th International Association of Fire Fighters Convention.

🚒 Sergeant-at-Arms Bob Connolly

🚒 Secretary Karl Langer

🚒 Members-at-Large Chad Walsh and Zach Parsons

🚒 Brother Justin Chow

The IAFF Convention brings together delegates from locals across Canada and the United States to help determine the direction and priorities of our International. Delegates review and vote on resolutions, constitutional amendments and other matters affecting IAFF members, while discussing the major issues facing professional firefighters, dispatchers and emergency personnel.

We look forward to providing the membership with an update at our next regular monthly meeting in accordance with our Constitution and Bylaws.

đŸ”„ Local 1075 are proud to have a voice in our International. đŸ”„

💧🚒 The St. John’s Fire Fighters Association Local 1075 is ready for Regatta Day! 🚒💧

Our Hydration Station is set up and ready to help everyone stay cool and hydrated during the Royal St. John’s Regatta!

📍 Stop by our tent for FREE bottled water and say hello to our members who are volunteering throughout the day.

You’ll also see our iconic Fill the Boot on site. If you’re able, consider making a cash donation. Every dollar helps us continue supporting important causes and charitable initiatives throughout our community.

A special thank you to Dominion Blackmarsh Road for their generous donation of bottled water and to Sobeys Merrymeeting Road for their donation of ice. Your support helps us keep thousands of spectators hydrated throughout one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s greatest traditions.

Most importantly, thank you to all of our Local 1075 members who volunteered their time today. Your commitment to serving our community extends far beyond emergency response, and we couldn’t do this without you.

Whether you’re rowing, cheering from the shoreline, or enjoying the festivities, have a safe and fantastic Regatta Day!

🚒💙 Stay hydrated, have fun, and we’ll see you at the tent!

Halifax Professional Fire Fighters have highlighted the critical role aerial operations play on the fireground. "Every fire is different, but properly staffed aerial apparatus give firefighters the tools, access, and options needed to operate safely and effectively"..

Four fires. Ten days. One critical tool.

Over the past 10 days, Halifax’s aerial trucks have played a critical role at four significant fires:

‱ July 18 – Howe Street commercial building fire
‱ July 18 – Saskatoon Drive house fire
‱ July 25 – South Park Street high-rise apartment fire
‱ July 27 – Gaston Road three-building fire

Aerial apparatus are among the most specialized and versatile tools on the fireground. They support rescue operations, elevated fire attack, ventilation, exposure protection, and provide access where ground ladders cannot.

Despite their importance, Halifax’s dedicated aerial trucks are routinely staffed with 2 professional fire fighters.

That is below the manufacturer’s minimum recommendation of 3, and below the industry best practice of 4. Operating an understaffed aerial often requires fire fighters to leave other critical fireground tasks to safely operate the truck, reducing resources available elsewhere on the scene.

Every fire is different. Every incident requires tactical decisions based on the conditions encountered. But one thing remains consistent: properly staffing apparatus gives incident commanders more options and helps improve both fire fighter safety and operational effectiveness.

Response times matter. Fire fighters in fire stations, on fire trucks, ready to respond—matter.

🍰 A big thank-you to a local small business owner who thought of our firefighters! 🚒

We want to give a special shout-out to Auntie Nancy Cupcakes and Treats for her kindness and generosity.

Nancy had a customer order that, due to an unexpected issue, could not be picked up. The food had already been prepared and rather than letting it go to waste, Nancy decided to share it with the firefighters at the station in her district.

The lucky recipients at Paradise Station were treated to some absolutely delicious and beautifully made cheesecake cones! They were a wonderful surprise and a great way to brighten the day of our members.

We want to thank Nancy for thinking of our firefighters and for supporting the local community. We also want to introduce her business to our IAFF Local 1075 members and encourage everyone to consider Auntie Nancy Cupcakes and Treats for your next sweet treat, celebration, or special occasion.

Supporting local small businesses like Nancy’s helps strengthen our community, and it’s great to see that same community spirit being shown back to our firefighters.

Thank you, Auntie Nancy's Cupcakes and Treats❀

If it wasn’t for the IAFF, for the APFFPA, and our locals contributing the funds and the collaboration, I sincerely believe we would have lost up to 250 IAFF jobs.

When we say ‘In Solidarity’ this is what we mean!

Today is National PTSD Awareness Day. As firefighters, we face extraordinary challenges, and PTSD can affect us just like anyone else. By raising awareness, we remind ourselves and our community that help is out there. You are not alone.
