Fire Prevention Week Safety Tip #6: OUT OF SIGHT? NOT IN FLIGHT.

When on a plane, keep devices where you can see them while charging. Do not charge e-cigarettes or vapes on the plane. Tell a flight attendant if you notice a problem with your device, such as if it feels very hot, starts to swell, is smoking, or has a strange smell.

Why it matters: If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.

The St. John's Regional Fire Department extends our sincere congratulations to the Goulds Volunteer Fire Department as they celebrate an incredible milestone this year, 50 years of dedicated service to their community.

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, Fire Chief Sherry Colford and Deputy Chief Paul Chaytor had the honour of attending the department's anniversary banquet and joining members, past and present, in recognizing five decades of commitment, sacrifice, and community spirit.

For five decades, the Goulds Volunteer Fire Department has played an invaluable role in protecting lives and property, responding when called, and serving their community with dedication, professionalism, and pride. This milestone reflects the commitment of the many volunteers who have contributed to the department's success over the years.

It's Fire Prevention Week! 🔥

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) is joining communities across the country for Fire Prevention Week, October 4 to 10, with this year’s theme: “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” The campaign, sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), focuses on the everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department was honoured to once again be part of the Airport Fire Department Haul for Hope Team, helping raise funds for Hope Air. It was a great morning spent alongside colleagues, giving back to individuals who rely on medical transportation assistance to access the care they need. While the team earned a second-place finish this year hauling the airport crash truck, they still felt like champions, knowing they made a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
