It’s time to Step Up with Kindness!

Small acts of kindness can have a powerful ripple effect — and this fall, we’re inviting Lions, friends and supporters across Canada to help create more of those moments.

Through our Step Up with Kindness campaign, you can help Lions Quest Canada give educators, volunteers and youth-serving adults the tools they need to build strong relationships and help young people develop the social and emotional skills they need for school, relationships and life.

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — a day to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors, their families, and their communities.

At Lions Quest Canada, our work is rooted in the belief that every young person deserves to feel safe, valued, respected, and connected.

Reconciliation asks us to listen, to learn, to reflect on the truths of our shared history, and to consider the role each of us can play in building stronger relationships and more caring communities.

Today, and throughout the year, we encourage the adults who support children and youth to make space for Indigenous voices, stories, experiences, and perspectives — and to continue learning.

Know an educator who wants to bring SEL to life in their classroom? Please share this with them.

Lions Quest isn't about adding one more thing to an already full school day. It's about helping educators strengthen relationships, build belonging and intentionally develop the social and emotional skills young people need.

Our SEL Implementation Workshop gives educators and youth-serving professionals practical training, ready-to-use resources and ongoing support to confidently use Lions Quest.

💲$350 — includes pre-workshop learning, the live interactive session, a resource package for one grade level and ongoing support.

Back to School isn’t just for educators — Lions can make a difference too!

As students and educators head back to school, here are a few simple ways Lions can help start the year with kindness and connection:
• Check in with a local school. Ask what they need and how your club can help.
• Support the caring adults. A note of encouragement or small gesture of appreciation can mean a lot to busy school staff.
• Help bring Lions Quest to your community. Talk with educators about resources and training that build relationships, life skills and student wellbeing.
• Look beyond the classroom. Coaches, mentors, after-school programs and other youth-serving organizations can also benefit from Social Emotional Learning.
• Start a conversation. Ask: “What would help young people in our community thrive this year?”
You don’t have to be an educator to make a difference in a young person’s life.
Sometimes it starts with one Lion making one connection.

There’s something powerful about hearing directly from the educators and school leaders who are bringing Lions Quest to life.

Tracy Casselman, Principal at H.E. Bourgoin Middle School in Bonnyville, Alberta, shares her perspective on what Lions Quest can bring to a school community.

This is what implementation is really about: not simply delivering lessons, but creating a school where relationships, connection and social-emotional skills are part of how students and adults learn and grow together.

One simple SEL strategy to try as routines begin again: Ask one more question.

When a young person tells you something, resist the urge to immediately give advice, solve the problem or move on.

Instead, try:

“Tell me more.”
“How did that make you feel?”
“What do you think you might do next?”

That extra question communicates something powerful:

I’m listening. What you think matters.

It also gives young people an opportunity to practise identifying emotions, reflecting, problem-solving and making decisions.

Sometimes supporting SEL starts with something as simple as being curious. ❤️

Imagine walking into a new classroom and not knowing where you fit.

Maybe your best friend is in another class. Maybe you’re new to the school. Maybe summer was difficult. Or maybe you’re simply wondering:

Will anyone notice me?
Will I have someone to sit with?
Will I belong here?

Then an adult greets you by name.

Someone invites you into a conversation.

A classmate makes room.

Nothing dramatic happened — but suddenly, the day feels a little different.

Belonging is built through moments like these.

As we approach a new school year, let’s remember that before young people are ready to learn, it helps to know there is a place for them.

You don’t have to see the impact right away for it to matter.

A kind word.
A patient response.
An invitation to join in.
A caring adult who listens.
A moment when someone says, “I believe in you.”

We may never know which small interaction becomes a turning point for a young person.

As educators, families and communities prepare for a new season, it’s a good reminder:

Every connection is an opportunity to make a difference.

Keep showing up. Keep connecting. Keep believing in young people. ❤️

It's great to spend time with the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) team for Canada this am. Did you know LCIF have invested $2.3 million ($US) to support Lions Quest implementation in Canada over the years? That support has made a positive difference in the lives of more than 3,000,000 young people. Imagine how much more we can do!
