The Royal Canadian Legion’s Dominion President Sharon McKeown presented the First Poppy of the 2026 National Poppy Campaign today, to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Louise Arbour, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada. The traditional annual event took place at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

“Her Excellency’s acceptance of the First Poppy is an important moment in our country each year,” said McKeown. “It is a significant act of Remembrance, and we are honoured by her support of the National Poppy Campaign.”

The Royal Canadian Legion is thinking of those who died or were injured after an incident at CFB Wainwright, an army base in Alberta. We send deep condolences to all families whose loved ones have given their lives in service to Canada. We will remember them. We also extend our help and support to these families and to those of the others injured in this tragedy. Legion flags will fly at half-mast in Remembrance. The army base is one of Canada’s largest training sites.

A good time was had by one and all for Sue Nixon’s, 65th Birthday Bash last night at our branch.

Thank you to everyone that volunteered or contributed in any way for making the night the success it was.

A big shout out to Anita Salmon, Cheryl Ferguson, Sally Graham, Allison Cottle, Jerry McEachern and Deep Tracks, for the rockin’ tunes. The music, food and comradeship made for a memorable evening.

Come have a spooktacular good time with Stayner Legion #457 for Halloween. DEEP TRACKS will get you up and dancing, 50/50 draw, door prizes and prize for best costume. Light buffet provided. Tickets can be purchased at the branch during open hours or at Hair by Sue $20 each.

Please see the important notice below from Ontario Command regarding the upcoming Peer Support Workshops (Level 1 and Level 2) offered by the Mood Disorders Society of Canada.
These workshops are free, held online via Zoom, and open to all Ontario Veterans and their Family Members. The facilitators are trauma‑informed mental health professionals and trained Veteran/Family peers. No preparation is required.
These sessions have been highly rated by hundreds of Veterans and families, and they provide meaningful support to those navigating service‑related challenges.

The Legion is once again inviting Canadian Veterans to come and participate as a member of the Veterans’ Marching Contingent, as part of the 2026 National Remembrance Day Ceremony. Afterwards, there will be a Veterans Luncheon following the ceremony at the Chateau Laurier. All Veterans are welcome!
