🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ PRIDE MONTH FILM SCREENING 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

You're invited to attend a free movie screening at the library to celebrate Pride Month! On Wednesday, June 24 we'll be showing the documentary "Parade: Q***r Acts of Love & Resistance" at 5:30 PM. This film is presented in collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada. Please note this film does discuss anti-2SLGBTQ+ violence, so attend at your own discretion.

For a description of the documentary, keep reading:

"Parade: Q***r Acts of Love & Resistance is a bold and unflinching documentary that charts the rise of Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ rights movement through powerful first-person testimony and rarely seen archival footage. From drag shows and community organizing to police raids and protests on Parliament Hill, the film honours the elders and activists whose defiance helped shape a more inclusive society. Director Noam Gonick brings audiences to the frontlines of a decades-long struggle, reminding us that the rights hard-won through grassroots resistance are far from guaranteed. At once enraging, hopeful and celebratory, Parade is a vital reminder of q***r resilience and a rallying cry for renewed solidarity today."

Happy Pride Month!

🍁 CANADIAN DENTAL CARE PLAN APPLICATION CLINIC 🍁

Do you need assistance with applying for the Canadian Dental Care Plan? Are you trying to find out if you're eligible? On Tuesday, June 30 we will have a Citizen Services Specialist from Service Canada at the library to help with that!

It will take roughly 15 minutes to apply per person. For example, if there are 3 members of your household who are eligible for the dental plan, it will take around 45 minutes to fill out all 3 applications.

To apply for the dental plan, you will need:
- To have filed your 2025 income tax return (with your spouse/common-law partner, if applicable)
- One valid government ID (such as driver's license)

🚀 Have you checked out a launchpad yet? 🚀

NLPL libraries across the province house these very handy learning tablets for ages 3+! They come pre-loaded with educational games and require no internet to use.

Launchpads are specially designed to support a child’s learning in multiple different areas:
Developing early literacy skills
Fostering self esteem
Building hand-eye coordination
Supporting imaginative play and the development of self-help skills

We currently have one tablet at our branch that is a STEAM superpack (science, technology, engineering, art, and math.) More tablets can be found at other libraries near you. And for our local educator card holders, you can borrow a kit containing 5 launchpad tablets from the Kindale library in Stephenville!

Please be aware that the launchpads can only be borrowed by adult and/or educator cardholders.
