💧 GREAT NEWS – BOIL WATER ADVISORY LIFTED! 💧

The Town of St. George’s is very pleased to advise residents that the Boil Water Advisory has officially been lifted, effective August 28, 2026.

The Town has received confirmation from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador – Government Services that the public water supply has met the required criteria for removal of the advisory.

Water testing has confirmed satisfactory bacteriological results, and the required chlorine residual levels are being maintained throughout the distribution system.

Residents can now resume normal use of the municipal water supply without boiling their water.

We know this advisory has been an inconvenience for our residents, businesses and community, and we sincerely thank everyone for their patience, understanding and cooperation while the necessary testing and monitoring were completed.

The Town will continue regular monitoring of the public water supply to ensure the safety and quality of our drinking water.

🏅 CELEBRATING TWO OUTSTANDING ST. GEORGE’S ATHLETES! 🏅

The Town of St. George’s is extremely proud to recognize Kristen Bennett and Jack Sheppard for their outstanding achievements in Special Olympics competition.

🇨🇦 Kristen Bennett represented Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta, August 10–15, bringing home an incredible collection of medals:

🥇 Gold – 200 m
🥇 Gold – Standing Long Jump
🥈 Silver – Javelin
🥈 Silver – Relay Race
🥉 Bronze – 100 m
🥉 Bronze – 400 m

🏃 Jack Sheppard competed in the Newfoundland and Labrador Special Olympics Summer Games in Stephenville, where he also had an outstanding performance:

🥈 Silver – Standing Long Jump

The courage, determination and perseverance demonstrated by Kristen and Jack are an inspiration to our entire community. Their accomplishments show what can be achieved through hard work, dedication and a love of sport.

PUBLIC NOTICE – WATER SERVICE DISCONNECTIONS BEGIN MONDAY, AUGUST 31

The Town of St. George’s wishes to advise residents that staff are continuing to review all accounts where payment plans were previously approved.

Beginning Monday, August 31, water service disconnections will commence for properties where accounts remain in arrears or where agreed payment plans have not been kept up to date.

The Town sincerely thanks those residents who have contacted the office, established payment arrangements, and are continuing to meet their agreed payment requirements. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Council has instructed staff to continue with the collection of outstanding accounts and to ensure the process is applied fairly and consistently to everyone.

Residents with overdue accounts or payment plans that are currently behind are strongly encouraged to contact the Town Office before Monday, August 31 to bring their account into compliance and avoid interruption of water service.

The Town will continue to keep residents informed as the collection process moves forward.

Thank You, John Hines!

The Town of St. George’s would like to extend a sincere thank you to John Hines for taking the initiative to clean the sand and debris from Main Street between the Town Hall and the Museum following the major rainfall yesterday and last night.

The heavy rainfall resulted in a significant amount of sand and debris being washed onto the roadway, and John took it upon himself to help clean up the area.

It’s people like John, who take pride in their community and are willing to lend a hand, that make St. George’s a great place to call home.

Thank you, John, for your time, effort, and community spirit. Kevin and Louise would certainly be proud of you.

⚠️ IMPORTANT – GYPSUM ROAD CLOSED ⚠️

Residents of Flat Bay, St. George’s, and surrounding areas are advised that Gypsum Road, the private haulage road between St. George’s and Flat Bay, is now CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC due to culvert washouts.

For public safety, the gates to Gypsum Road will be locked.

Please do not attempt to access or travel on Gypsum Road until further notice. The washouts have created unsafe conditions, and the closure is necessary for everyone’s safety.

We ask everyone to respect the locked gates and stay off the road.

Thank you for your cooperation. Please share this notice with anyone who may use this route.

⚠️ BOIL WATER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT ⚠️

The Town of St. George’s would like to remind residents that the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect until further notice.

The latest bacteriological water analysis showed satisfactory results at all four sampling locations, with both total coliform and E. coli absent.

However, the report from Environmental Health advises that the chlorine level must be increased to meet the required 0.3 mg/L at the beginning of the water system. For this reason, the Boil Water Advisory cannot be lifted at this time.

The Town is continuing to work to meet the required chlorine levels and will complete any additional testing required. The advisory will remain in place until we receive official approval that it can be lifted.

We understand the inconvenience this causes and appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation. We will provide another update as soon as further information is received.

Boil Water Advisory Remains in Effect

The Town of St. George’s wishes to provide residents with an update regarding the current Boil Water Advisory (BWA).

Recent bacteriological water analysis results have confirmed that all samples collected on July 27, 2026, were satisfactory, with no Total Coliforms or E. coli detected at any of the sampling locations. This is very encouraging and demonstrates that the water quality continues to improve.

However, the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect.

The report notes that chlorine residual levels at the beginning of the distribution system must be increased to meet the required minimum of 0.30 mg/L. Until this requirement is met and additional testing confirms the system is fully compliant, Service NL Environmental Health has directed that the Boil Water Advisory remain in place.

Residents are reminded to:

* Continue to boil all water intended for drinking, cooking, preparing infant formula, brushing teeth, making ice, and washing fruits and vegetables for at least one minute before use.
* Follow all boil water precautions until an official notice is issued advising that the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted.

The Town is continuing to work closely with Environmental Health to meet all regulatory requirements and will provide updates as soon as new information becomes available.

We appreciate everyone’s continued patience and cooperation. The safety of our residents remains our highest priority.

🚰 BOIL WATER ADVISORY REMINDER 🚰

The Town of St. George’s would like to remind all residents that the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect.

While the Town implemented the advisory as a precautionary measure, only Service NL has the authority to officially lift the advisory after reviewing and approving the required water quality test results.

We are currently awaiting Service NL to complete its testing and provide official clearance. As soon as we receive confirmation that the advisory has been lifted, we will notify residents immediately through our usual communication channels.

Until that time, please continue to boil all water intended for drinking, cooking, preparing infant formula, brushing teeth, and making ice.

We appreciate everyone’s continued patience and cooperation as we work through this process. The safety of our drinking water remains our highest priority.
