Red Brick Common The old brick school built in 1925, using Scottish architectural design; it has a hip-gable roof and a bell tower.

The school was Stony Plain’s first regional high school and was in full operation until 1949. After extensive renovations and landscaping, the school was reborn as the Multicultural Heritage Centre, a Provincial Historic Site. Alongside the red brick schoolhouse stands the Oppertshauser House. Built in 1910, it is architecturally unique due to its unusual European style roof. The Oppertshauser Hou

se is a Municipal Historic Resource, which interprets the urban aspect of our local heritage in the setting of a well-established Stony Plain family. Tour the museum, art gallery, pioneer cabin, artisan shop, and the Oppertshauser House as well as the outdoor gardens, and amphitheatre. A behind-the-scenes look at the process behind 'Held in Balance' 🎨 🖌️

Steve R. Mitts combines his paintings with reclaimed wood from obsolete, century-old prairie grain bins. These works, constructed entirely from aged materials, are cropped, segmented, rehabilitated, and reassembled into new compositions. What was once dormant is transformed and made relevant again. This process began as a simple desire to create something unique, but over three decades it has evolved into a deeply considered journey of material and conceptual exploration.
