"What the heck are those things?!" you might ask?

Both can be found at a toastmasters meeting!

The lovely Oscar-like statue is awarded every week to the member who is deemed to have given the best 'table topics' oration. The black structure with the white circle inside acts as a timing device, lighting up with a green, yellow or red light to indicate how long we have been speaking.

You might call them 'tricks of the trade' ;)

They are meeting themes for our Toastmasters meeting!

Each week the chairman chooses a theme, around which the meeting revolves. The rules when choosing a meeting theme? Pretty much anything goes! What's important is that it gets people on their feet talking, in front of others. That's the beauty of a Toastmasters meeting - it's not about what you talk about, it's simply about being given multiple opportunities every week to speak in front of others.

Practice your public speaking skills AND have fun doing so?!?

What are 🫵 waiting for!?!!!

Come on out and try a meeting and see how friendly and supportive our club can be. Yes, we are there to improve our skills, but we have a lot of fun doing so.

Yes. Toastmasters has developed a curriculum that walks you through what speeches to give. The general topic of your speech, as well as written and video tutorials, are provided by Toastmasters, enhancing your understanding of the speech topic, and how to present it. The Toastmasters curriculum is called the ‘Pathways Program’. You can read more about on the Toastmasters International website by going to www.toastmasters.org .
And if giving a speech sounds scary – it isn’t! The people who attend Toastmasters meetings are amongst the kindest, supportive people you will meet. They have been in your ‘shoes’ and are your biggest cheerleaders and fans. Toastmasters couldn’t be a better place to gain confidence speaking in front of others, providing a safe place to practice until you feel ready to tackle ‘real-world’ public speaking.

Are you expected to give a wedding, retirement, or other social speech in the near future and dreading it?!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE 😉

If you don't speak in public often, having to give a speech like this can feel daunting. Toastmasters is a great place to work out the bugs, get some feedback, and find a supportive audience. Many of members have practised speeches for these exact occasions. You are welcome to attend a few meetings and try a dry run of your speech with us. You may find you want to keep attending when you see how much fun we have!
