Grade 7 and 8 students took part in a BBEMA workshop classifying and recording the numbers of macro invertebrates in samples from different freshwater sites and looking at their pollution tolerance levels. Students were intrigued by the level of biodiversity found in small tray samples from local rivers. Some students' opinions even changed from "gross" to "cute" with respect to their findings.

October is Fire Safety Month! 🔥🚒 Last week, a few lucky Grade 3 students had the chance to ride in fire trucks, visit the fire hall for lunch, and watch an important fire safety video. They had a fantastic time learning about fire safety, and we encourage all families to take a few minutes to talk with their children about fire safety and what to do in an emergency! ❤️

Bannock is a quick bread and is a staple food of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Grade 8s enjoyed making it and eating it with butter and strawberry jam.

2A is super excited to share that they are raising baby chicks. 🐤 They will be taking extra special care of the eggs for 21 days and expect to have baby chicks around October 19th! Lots of fun and learning happening. 🐣🐥

What a fantastic Friday at Athena! ☀️✨

🎈Welcome to Athena Celebration: Our Gr. 9s gave a big, warm welcome to our newest and youngest hawks - our Kindergarteners!

🏀Teachers vs. Students Basketball Game: Next, the staff took on the students in honor of one of Terry Fox's favorite sports.

🏃‍♂️Terry Fox Walk: We finished the day by heading outside to walk around the field together, carrying on Terry's incredible legacy of courage and hope.

It was the perfect way to end the week. Hope everyone has a wonderful and well deserved weekend! Go Hawks!
