We’ve had many new people join our page over the past few weeks, and we wanted to take a moment to say thank you and welcome!

Follow along for updates, stories, and ways our Sundre SAR team is helping the community. We’re glad to have you here!

First Post of 2026!

We’re kicking off 2026 busy and prepared! The past month has been packed with training, exercises, and projects.

Our team continues ongoing rope rescue training with Sundre SAR’s very own member, Ihor Holowczynsky, a highly experienced technical rescue instructor and NFPA contributor whose expertise is a huge asset to our members.

We also joined Mountain View SAR in January for snowshoeing and skiing as part of the prerequisites for an upcoming overnight exercise. A second training session planned for February has been postponed due to unprecedented warm weather and will resume once colder, snowier conditions allow us to complete signal fires, shelter building, and first aid scenarios. All leading to a final weekend where members put their knowledge to use in an overnight session.

Meanwhile, construction continues on the new meeting room at the Sundre SAR base. A huge thank you to our dedicated team members who are making this updated space possible for meetings, training, and team activities.

We’re starting the year strong! Follow along as we continue training and preparing to serve our community!

Be sure to join these local community events to show your support for Sundre Search & Rescue. We are getting ready for the holiday season and are pleased to be participating in a few great community events!

We will be taking part in the Olds Parade of Lights on Saturday, November 29.

On Sunday, November 30, we will be at the Sundre Community Centre during the Christmas Market to answer any questions and connect with community members.

Be sure to dress warm, and as always we appreciate your continued support and look forward to seeing you there! 🎄☃️

Today we took the machines out west and had an awesome day putting our training into action. We mixed pleasure with practicality, honing our skills while navigating a variety of trails. Yes, we got stuck — but that’s all part of the learning experience! It made for great problem-solving and even better team bonding!

Sundre SAR teamed up with Rocky Mountain House Search & Rescue for a full day of OHV/ATV training!

The session focused on safe operation, field readiness, and coordinated response techniques to ensure we can effectively navigate challenging environments during search operations. We covered riding skills, safety, and how to use these machines efficiently in real search scenarios.

Stay tuned — tomorrow we’re taking our new skills out west to put them to the test in real terrain
