2: Hello friends, comrades, and supporters
We are so deeply grateful for all the support we have received since our first march in 2022. We want to announce that while SDM still exists, whether a march happens this year is still being determined and we are seeking organizers for SDM going forward.

3: Following community feedback, we have pivoted from our previous announcement to focusing on efforts to hold a march or another event this year, especially given our strong financial situation.

4: what we are looking to now is finding organizers to carry SDM forward

We are so deeply grateful for all the support we have received since our first march in 2022. We want to announce that while SDM still exists, we will not be holding a march this year. Instead, we will be focusing on capacity building efforts.

We want to start this by hearing from our community through a feedback process, including past organizers, volunteers, and folks who have attended the march as well as any others involved whether through donations, providing services, or attending other events like our picnics.

Details will be coming soon regarding this process. If anyone can recommend a mediator or someone to guide these conversations including addressing conflict, please dm or email us.

We are taking our time as we want to do this in a good way that is accountable to our entire community and that aligns with our values.

As we have some funds remaining from last year, we will be providing honoraria to those who engage with the feedback process.

THE SURREY D**E MARCH PRIDES OURSELVES ON CENTERING ACCESSIBILITY, ALLOWING DISABLED PEOPLE TO ATTEND EVENTS THAT THEY MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE BE ABLE TO ATTEND.
THE MARCH IS A MASK-MANDATORY SPACE AND THE EVENT IS HELD OUTSIDE IN A SPACIOUS PARK. MASKS WILL BE PROVIDED AND HANDED OUT TO PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T BROUGHT THEIR OWN; WE WILL HAVE DAY OF VOLUNTEERS HANDING THEM OUT AS PEOPLE ARRIVE AT THE PARK.

PART 2:

THERE MAY BE OTHER EVENTS HELD IN THE PARK THAT ARE NOT MASK MANDATORY AND, AS SUCH, WE CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT SHARED SPACES LIKE THE WASHROOMS WILL NOT HAVE UNMASKED PEOPLE.
SDM ORGANIZERS AND VOLUNTEERS WILL TAKE A COVID TEST THE DAY BEFORE AND THE DAY OF THE EVENT. IF ANYONE TESTS POSITIVE OR FEELS UNWELL, THEY WILL BE ASKED TO STAY HOME.

MARCH. ALL INGREDIENTS WILL BE LISTED AND/OR ORIGINAL PACKAGING AVAILABLE. WE WILL HAVE OPTIONS FOR PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT DIETARY RESTRICTIONS, SUCH AS PEOPLE WHO ARE VEGAN, VEGETARIAN, LACTOSE-FREE, FODMAP, GLUTEN FREE, ETC.
WE WILL MARK ANY FOODS THAT HAVE PEANUTS, EGGS, DAIRY OR GLUTEN.

THERE WILL BE A HARM REDUCTION SET UP AT THE PARK.
THIS WILL INCLUDE, AMONG OTHER SUPPLIES, SAFER S*X SUPPLIES AND INFO BROCHURES, DRUG TESTING STRIPS, SAFER DRUG USAGE KITS AND INFO BROCHURES, NALOXONE KITS, FIRST AID SUPPLIES, SAFER S*X SUPPLIES LIKE CONDOMS (EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL), L**E AND GLOVES, HIV SELF-TEST KITS, INFO BROCHURES, ETC.

THE PATHWAYS IN HOLLAND PARK ARE WIDE ENOUGH TO FIT LARGER MOBILITY DEVICES, UP TO 36 INCHES OR MORE.

PART 2:
QUALITY OF THE PAVEMENT:
THE PAVEMENT HAS A FEW CRACKS AND CAN BE UNEVEN, SO TAKE CARE WHEN USING A CANE OR MOBILITY DEVICE. THERE ARE A FEW AREAS THAT COULD POSE A TRIPPING HAZARD, SUCH AS NEAR THE EVENT LOCATION. WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO MARK UNEVEN PAVEMENT WITH CHALK.

STAIRS
THERE ARE NO STAIRS NEEDED TO ACCESS THE EVENT LOCATION OR THE MARCH; IF THERE ARE LEVEL CHANGES, THERE ARE RAMPS AND CURB STOPS.
AT THE EVENT LOCATION, THERE IS A CEMENT AREA THAT IS ONLY ACCESSIBLE BY STAIRS (4 STEPS OF A CONSISTENT 7 INCH HEIGHT). THERE ARE NO GUARDRAILS AND THERE IS NO RAMP DOWN TO THIS AREA. TO IMPROVE VISIBILITY, WE COULD ADD A DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT COLOUR TO THE EDGE (EVEN WITH GAFFING TAPE OR HAZARD TAPE), SO THAT THE STAIR'S EDGE CAN BE SEEN BETTER.

Gentle reminder:

our march is mask mandatory❤️

Please note that in order to help our most vulnerable members feel safe at our march, we are mask mandatory. We will provide masks for folks who do not have them. We believe disabled folks deserve equal access, and being mask mandatory helps us align with that belief.

Our march is on August 23 at 2pm📢📢

We are still accepting volunteers ❤️
