June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada. 🧡

This month is an opportunity to recognize, learn from, and honour the unique cultures, traditions, histories, and experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

For CFSEU-BC, National Indigenous History Month is also a time to reflect on our shared responsibility in advancing reconciliation, strengthening understanding, and supporting respectful relationships with Indigenous communities across British Columbia.

Throughout June, we encourage employees and community members to take time to learn, reflect, and engage in meaningful ways — by listening to Indigenous voices, learning about Residential Schools and the ongoing impacts of colonization, exploring Indigenous cultures and languages, and recognizing the strength, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples.

National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 is another important opportunity to honour and celebrate Indigenous cultures, communities, and contributions across Canada. 🌿

Reconciliation is not limited to one month. It is an ongoing responsibility that requires learning, respect, and action.

Enforcement and Training in Action

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia’s (CFSEU-BC)
Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET) was recently deployed to Kamloops,
working alongside Kamloops RCMP to deliver the Provincial Intelligence &
Enforcement Training (PIET) program, an initiative focused on strengthening
frontline responses to gangs and organized crime in communities across British
Columbia.

During the deployment, UGET members partnered directly with local officers to
share intelligence-led policing strategies, enforcement techniques, and specialized
skillsets designed to support ongoing gang suppression efforts and enhance
community safety.

The deployment also resulted in the seizure of fi****ms, drugs, and cash linked to
criminal activity, a strong reminder of the impact collaborative enforcement initiatives
can have when agencies work together.

By supporting local detachments through training, mentorship, and operational
collaboration, UGET continues to help build long-term capacity in communities
facing organized crime and gang-related challenges.

In Canada, gangs are using social media to promote money, status, luxury, and lifestyle to attract attention online. What’s shown on a screen may look appealing, but it’s often designed to manipulate, influence, and recruit youth into gangs and drug trafficking.

The more content someone watches, likes, shares, or pauses on, the more the algorithm pushes similar content forward. Over time, repeated exposure can make dangerous behaviour appear normal.

Throughout June, CFSEU-BC will be raising awareness about:
⚠️ Online recruitment tactics used by gangs
⚠️ Warning signs parents and youth should know
⚠️ How to stay safe online and protect personal information
⚠️ Resources available to support youth and families

Awareness starts with conversation. By talking openly about what youth are seeing online, we can help build critical thinking, resilience, and safer communities.

Together, we can help keep our youth safe.
