Beau Simpson has a family in Cloverdale, and like every family in Surrey, he's watched grocery bills climb this past year. 🛒

The field behind him grows 50 million servings of potatoes and vegetables a year, and the first potatoes harvested in Canada come out of this ground, right here in Surrey. After 15 years as an editor at the Surrey Now-Leader, Beau reported on Doug McCallum's 2022 promise to protect this land, and he knows Doug still means it.

As mayor, Doug will have the city buy this farm and keep it growing food, so the next time a trade war hits, Surrey feeds itself with Canadian potatoes, not American ones.

On October 17, vote Doug McCallum and the Safe Surrey Coalition. Doug Gets It Done. ✅

Laurie Guerra has raised her family in Surrey for 31 years, and she's never seen grocery bills like the ones families are carrying right now. 🏡

The more of our food that comes from somewhere else, the more we pay. The field behind her grows 50 million servings of food a year and harvests the first potatoes in Canada weeks before anyone else. That's not a slogan. That's food security, and it's ours.

Laurie sat on council when Doug McCallum promised to protect this land, and he meant it. As mayor, he'll buy it for the City of Surrey and keep it in public hands, so no family here ever has to wonder if our food supply got paved over. In a trade war, the smartest thing a city can do is feed itself.

Doug McCallum will protect Heppell Farm so it can continue growing Canadian potatoes and feeding Surrey families for generations to come.
A one-year lease is not enough. Doug is calling on Ottawa to sell the 300-acre farm to the City of Surrey so it can remain farmland permanently, stay in public hands and become the flagship of his Farm Local plan to bring more affordable, locally grown food to Surrey families.
Protect Canadian farmland. Grow local food. Reduce our reliance on American imports.
Public land. Public food. Forever.

The first potatoes harvested in Canada every year come out of the ground right here in Surrey. 🥔🇨🇦

The Heppell family has farmed this land for 50 years. Fifty million servings of food a year. And this week, Ottawa gave them one more year.

One year is not protection. It's a countdown.

Doug McCallum is calling on the federal government to sell this land to the City of Surrey, so it stays farmland, stays public, and belongs to every family in this city, forever. Not warehouses. Not a container terminal. Food, grown here, owned by all of us.

Doug promised to protect this land in 2022. He hasn't moved an inch.

With tariffs at the border and grocery bills climbing, the smartest thing a city can do is feed itself. We don't need American potatoes. We need Canadian potatoes, and they grow right here.

This is Farm Local. Surrey grows its own food, and Surrey families eat it.

Ottawa gave this farm one more year. Doug will give it forever.

DOUG GETS IT DONE. 🇨🇦
