The Royal Canadian Legion is thinking of those who died or were injured after an incident at CFB Wainwright, an army base in Alberta. We send deep condolences to all families whose loved ones have given their lives in service to Canada. We will remember them. We also extend our help and support to these families and to those of the others injured in this tragedy. Legion flags will fly at half-mast in Remembrance. The army base is one of Canada’s largest training sites.

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed every year on October 17th. First recognized by the United Nations in 1992, this day aims to promote awareness of the reality of living in poverty and to encourage efforts to alleviate it.

This year marks the 112th Anniversary of the Royal 22e Régiment, commonly known as the “Van Doos” (from the French word vingt-deux, meaning “twenty-two”). As the first French-Canadian regiment, Van Doos was the only combatant unit of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) whose official language was French. The Van Doos was also “one of the CEF’s fiercest fighting units.”
