Today, we remember the Raid on Dieppe. Code-named “Operation Jubilee,” the Dieppe Raid took place in 1942 on the French coastal port of Dieppe. Of the 6,1000 Allied troops who fought, nearly 5,000 were Canadians.

“The Canadians who fought in the Raid on Dieppe achieved and sacrificed much in their efforts to help bring peace and freedom to the people of Europe. Their task was a difficult and costly one, but their effort was not in vain… Canada and the world recognize the sacrifices and achievements of all Canadians, like those who fought in the Raid on Dieppe, who accomplished so much and left a lasting legacy of peace.”

The British Columbia Tattoo will be performing at the PNE from August 22-23, 2026! Both shows begin at 6:30pm. Legion members in their Blazers who arrive before the show will be escorted to a special seating area (first-come, first-served).

This year’s theme of the British Columbia Tattoo is “Bond of Friendship.” Their pipe bands include three proud kilted regiments and a police pipe band, with musicians travelling from communities stretching from the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains to Victoria. Their brass and reed bands have journeyed from Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Edmonton, and even San Diego. They are also honoured to welcome a gifted singer and two accomplished violinists from Ukraine.
