Public Notice: School Trustee Elections 2026

The Board of Education of School District 36 is comprised of 6 trustees elected from the City of Surrey and 1 trustee elected from the City of White Rock. Elected trustees are responsible for setting the district's educational goals and priorities, approving budgets that reflect those priorities, establishing policy, planning for the district's future and keeping the community informed on educational matters.

Trustees are elected under the School Act to make decisions on public education on behalf of the residents of Surrey and White Rock. Importantly, trustees govern as a collective: decisions are debated and voted on at board meetings and no individual trustee, committee or chairperson can act on the board's behalf alone. Day-to-day operations of the district are managed by professional staff under the leadership of the superintendent, while the board focuses on governance and strategic direction.

Ahead of the 2026 General School Election, Surrey Schools will host an information session for community members considering a run for school trustee. The one-hour session takes place on Tuesday, September 1 at 7:00p.m. at the district’s Resource and Education Center (Room 205) at 14123 92nd Avenue, Surrey, B.C.

📚 School starts Sept. 8! Here’s what you need to know for the first day of school

✨ Kindergarten: Gradual entry for the first two weeks – check your email and school website for details. All kindergarten students start full-time on Monday, Sept. 21.

👦👧 Grades 1-7: Classes start at 10 a.m. with an early dismissal on opening day. Confirm times with your school.

🧑‍🦱👩‍🦰 Grades 8-12: Secondary schools also have a shortened first day, with start/dismissal times varying by grade and school.

👏 A huge scholarship deserves a huge recognition!

👩‍🎓 Sarah Ye of Fleetwood Park Secondary is among just 100 students Canada-wide selected for the highly coveted Schulich Leader Scholarships, receiving $120K to study engineering at SFU!

🥳 More than 350,000 students from across the country applied for this scholarship, and Sarah made the top 100! Congratulations, Sarah!

Sarah Ye of Fleetwood Park Secondary is one of this year’s recipients of the Schulich Leader Scholarships, a highly coveted six-figure scholarship for students who demonstrate a passion for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
