🥇 On your marks, get set, gold! Surrey & White Rock student athletes had an impressive showing at this year’s Track & Field provincials, winning 18 gold medals and taking the podium 35 times!

👟 Students from nine secondary schools had top-three finishes in shot put, hammer throw, discus, hurdles and numerous dashes and runs!

👏 Congratulations to all our Track & Field stars!

Some legacies span generations.

For 40 years, Lucy Hembrough has been the familiar face at the crosswalk at William F. Davidson Elementary, helping kids cross safely. Kids who are now parents, sending their own children into her care.

This week, the school came together to honour her, and Mayor Locke made it official, presenting Lucy with a certificate of recognition and a ceremonial key to the city. Students presented Lucy with 40 flowers, symbolizing each year of service.

A well-deserved tribute to a woman who has quietly shaped this community, one crossing at a time. 💛

🙏 As this school year wraps up, Surrey Schools would like to send a tremendous THANK YOU to our Bright Futures Endowment Fund supporters and community partners, whose donations make a meaningful and lasting benefit for students in our schools!

📣 In a special luncheon last week at W.E. Kinvig Elementary, students spoke of the impact from donations to the endowment that have supported music, technology and other initiatives at their school.

🌱 Bright Futures is a community driven initiative to ensure students have the basics they need to focus on learning, playing and growing.

❤️ Donations are invested and annual income is put toward valuable programs, equipment and field trips, as well as food, clothing and student supplies for our most vulnerable learners.

🙌 Surrey Schools is receiving a $35,000 grant to support accessibility, thanks to the Rick Hansen Foundation and RBC!

🧑‍🦽‍➡️ The district is among 40 Canadian groups to receive the RBC Barrier Buster Grant in recognition of its efforts to improve accessibility across schools.

Investing in Future Fire Fighters and Community Leaders

The Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society was proud to award $10,000 in scholarships to four outstanding graduates of the 2026 Surrey Fire Fighters Youth Academy.

This year, 32 Surrey students completed the Academy, gaining firsthand experience in the fire service while developing leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. New this year, participants also earned high school credits through Surrey Schools and completed 20 hours of community volunteer service, learning the importance of giving back both on and off the job.

Two students at Georges Vanier Elementary had a big idea — and an even bigger result.

Abisha and Qisya organized a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House with a special incentive: if the school raised $600, principal Mr. Reader would dye his hair pink. The school didn't just meet the goal — they raised $1,065.47, nearly double! 🎉

Abisha and Qisya got to personally deliver the funds to Ronald McDonald House, and the whole school gathered for a special assembly to see Mr. Reader unveil his pink 'do. 🩷✂️

The Surrey Board of Education is seeking $5.5 billion in capital funding for 76 major projects to meet needs for students spaces as enrolment growth continues in Surrey and White Rock.

At this month’s public meeting, the board approved the 2027-28 Five-Year Capital Plan, which outlines capital requests for new schools, additions, site acquisitions, replacements, seismic upgrades and building envelope projects.
