🏆 Wow! Congratulations to Semiahmoo Secondary on a spectacular sports season!

🏀 24 of 38 Semiahmoo Secondary teams made it to provincial championships this season - from basketball and volleyball to wrestling, soccer, and swimming - with senior girls badminton topping it off by taking home the title on May 31.

🏸 With golf and track & field provincials still underway, the Thunderbirds aren't done yet.

💡 Eureka! Two Surrey students are winners at this year’s Canada-Wide Science Fair, the nation’s largest youth STEM event!

🦠 Sreya Kurup of Frank Hurt Secondary and Akshath Anand of SAIL were among finalists to win medals and scholarships for their science projects!

👏 Congratulations to both of our winners and everyone who competed!

Grade 9 SAIL student Akshath Anand and Grade 12 Frank Hurt Secondary student Sreya Kurup each took home excellence awards and a several entrance scholarships with winning projects at this year's Canada-Wide Science Fair.

🤝 Started by learning support teacher Rena Wells, the initiative turns cast-off coats, boots, and backpacks into dignity, warmth and a genuine sense of belonging.

A wondrous sight greets visitors to Lena Shaw Elementary School, one of the largest elementary schools in Surrey. In the north hallway, under a sign reading, “The Lena Shawp,” there is a rack of clean coats, lunch bags, and backpacks and seven bins filled with shoes and neatly folded clothing.

The Feeding Futures Department hosted its first-ever Community Lunch at Port Kells Elementary on May 21 — and what a lunch it was! 🥔

Thanks to Heppell’s Potatoes, students, families, and community members enjoyed cheesy potatoes and fresh veggies together. Every student went home with a 5 lb bag of potatoes and a new water bottle.

Universal Lunch is now running at 110+ schools across the district for less than $3/meal — or free for families who need support. Questions? Reach out at [email protected]
