Last weekend, I visited Adams River for the Salute to the Sockeye Festival, celebrating the return of the Sockeye Salmon to one of B.C.’s most remarkable natural landscapes.

The festival brings visitors, families and communities together to witness this incredible natural event, with educational displays, interpretive tours, Indigenous cultural experiences and activities for all ages. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the salmon’s journey and the important role they play in our ecosystems.

Thank you to the Adams River Salmon Society, the Skwlax Little Shuswap Lake Band, Secwépemc communities and the many volunteers who make this festival possible and help protect B.C.’s natural heritage for future generations.

Building a stronger Canada starts with investing in the skilled trades workers who build our homes, infrastructure and industries.

Through Team Canada Strong, the Government of Canada is investing more than $430 million over five years to expand apprenticeship training, improve access to skills development and equip the next generation of tradespeople for success.

With 1.4 million job openings projected in the skilled trades by 2033, this investment will help prepare workers for the opportunities ahead.

From farm to table, Canadian farmers and businesses play a vital role in keeping fresh, locally grown food on tables across the country!

I enjoyed visiting RGR Produce in South Surrey to see firsthand how they work with local farmers to bring high-quality, locally grown vegetables to market.

RGR uses an impressive on-site vacuum cooling system to rapidly cool freshly harvested vegetables, preserving freshness and helping extend shelf life.

Best of all, their produce is grown right here in South Surrey, and sold across Canada! It’s great to see businesses supporting our farmers, strengthening our domestic food supply and helping Canadian agriculture thrive.

A major milestone for Canada’s shipbuilding industry and our Arctic future!

I visited Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards for the Keel Laying Ceremony of the future CCGS Imnaryuaq, Canada’s next heavy polar icebreaker.

This vessel will strengthen Canada’s Arctic presence and sovereignty, supporting year-round operations in Arctic waters and giving the Canadian Coast Guard the capabilities needed to carry out critical missions in some of the world’s most challenging conditions.

From search and rescue, environmental response and Arctic science to icebreaking and resupplying Northern communities, the CCGS Imnaryuaq will play a vital role in keeping our waters safe, supporting remote communities and ensuring essential goods reach the North.

Built here in Canada, this project also showcases the skills and expertise of Canadian shipbuilders while reinforcing our commitment to protecting Canada’s Arctic interests for generations to come.

What a fantastic finish to another incredible season at the White Rock Farmers Market!

It was great to see so many people come out to enjoy the market and support local.

With more than 210,000 visits this season, the market continues to bring our community together while showcasing the best of our local farmers, talented makers and small businesses. From fresh, locally grown produce to handmade goods and young entrepreneurs, there is always something special to discover.

A big thank you to the organizers, vendors and volunteers who make this market such an important part of our community.

Congratulations on a successful season, and I look forward to seeing everyone back next year!

Last week, I met with Amandipp Singh, Founder of ENABLE Canada, to discuss their work advancing accessibility, inclusion and equal participation for people with disabilities.

By bringing together people with lived experience and allies, ENABLE Canada works to break down barriers and expand opportunities in education, employment, entrepreneurship and community life.

What a night for Surrey!

The inaugural Surrey Showdown brought together Surrey Firefighters and Surrey Police Service for an exciting night of hockey, friendly rivalry and community spirit!

With over $22,000 raised in support of the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society and local youth initiatives, this event showed the power of bringing our community together for a great cause.

Congratulations to the organizers, players, and everyone who made this event such a success.
