I would like to extend my sincere thanks to His Excellency Muhsin Syihab, Ambassador of Indonesia to Canada, for graciously hosting the Canada–Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Group networking dinner.

Canada and Indonesia share a strong and growing partnership built on mutual respect, economic cooperation, and people-to-people ties. I appreciated the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on how we can further strengthen collaboration between our two countries for the benefit of both Canadians and Indonesians.

The National School Food Program continues to expand across Canada, strengthening support for students and families.

With provincial and territorial action plans now finalized, The Honourable Anna Gainey, Secretary of State for Children and Youth, announced the program will reach up to 400,000 more children each year, with federal funding doubled to 140 million dollars since 2024 to 2025.

More than 10,000 schools, about 80 percent nationwide, are now offering school food programs, helping improve children’s health, support learning, and ease household grocery costs, saving families an estimated 800 dollars per year.

In South Surrey White Rock, 25 schools are now supported through school food programming, helping ensure local students have access to nutritious meals and stronger supports in the classroom.

This work is supported by the National School Food Program Act (Bill C 15), now law, and aligns with Canada’s first ever National Food Security Strategy, backed by more than 3 billion dollars in long term investments to strengthen affordability and food security across the country.

Our government’s commitment to stricter bail and tougher sentences is now law.

With more than 80 targeted changes to the Criminal Code through Bill C-14, repeat and violent offenders will face stricter bail rules, while those convicted of serious crimes such as organized crime, home invasion, car theft, and human trafficking will face stronger consequences.

These changes provide provinces and territories with additional tools to improve public safety and help ensure Canadians feel safe in their communities.

This past weekend, I joined the community at the Sunehri Family Festival to celebrate 10 years of Sunehri Arts Club’s incredible impact.

Qillaniq is a new exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada that brings together leading Indigenous contemporary artists from across the circumpolar world (Canada, the Arctic, and beyond) to explore a powerful idea: that love and community are a genuine response to hardship.

I attended the opening last week, which included performances, remarks from the artists, and a room full of people who had travelled a long way to be there. I had a great conversation with Her Excellency Hanne Ulrichsen, Ambassador of Norway, joined by her Swedish and Danish counterparts. A fitting gathering for an exhibition whose reach stretches across the entire top of the globe.

If you’re in Ottawa, it’s worth a visit. Free admission on Thursday evenings at 380 Sussex Drive.

It was wonderful to welcome constituents from South Surrey - White Rock to Ottawa last week!

Thank you for making the trip and for the conversations. It’s always a pleasure to connect and share more about the work being done here on behalf of our community. I was especially encouraged to see so many young people visiting and engaging in our democracy, it’s inspiring to watch the next generation take an interest in public service.
