It was a great evening last week at the inaugural Semiahmoo First Nation Golf Tournament and social.

It was great to connect with members of the community, meet new faces and celebrate the strong sense of community and connection.

Thank you to Semiahmoo First Nation for the warm welcome and for bringing people together while supporting important initiatives for youth, language revitalization and culture, as well as Sources Community Resource Centres.

The Canada Summer Jobs program is supporting over 222 summer jobs right here in South Surrey–White Rock, creating opportunities for local youth while helping local businesses and non-profit organizations continue the incredible work they do in our community!

Last week, I visited three more employers participating in the program, representing 22 summer jobs for local youth:

☀️ Thrive Kids Canada – I visited their summer camp in Cloverdale and had the opportunity to meet the staff and see the program in action. Through games, activities, and leadership opportunities, Thrive Kids creates a fun environment where children can build confidence, develop new skills, and make lasting summer memories. It was great to see the positive impact the program has on local families and the experience it provides for the young people working there through Canada Summer Jobs.

🍽️ Storehouse Community Hub (Cloverdale Community Kitchen) – Storehouse is doing remarkable work to address food insecurity while building a stronger sense of community. Their Community Kitchen serves more than 1,000 meals each weekday, supported by over 50 volunteers operating 14 delivery routes throughout the community. Beyond meals, they provide food bank services, clothing storage, and opportunities for people to gather and connect in a welcoming environment. It was inspiring to learn more about how they meet practical needs while ensuring people are supported with dignity and respect.

🏠 Options Community Services – Bill Reid Place – Bill Reid Place provides emergency shelter, transition housing, meals, laundry and shower facilities, and support services for individuals working toward greater stability. The pet-friendly facility offers both shelter spaces and transitional housing, helping residents access the resources they need while taking steps toward permanent housing. I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the important work being done to support some of our community’s most vulnerable residents.

Thank you to these organizations for the important work you do every day and for providing meaningful employment opportunities for young people through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

A full house at the constituency office this summer! ☀️

A big thank you to Isha, Daniel and Art for being such a great part of our team.

Isha joined us through the Summer Leadership Program, bringing her enthusiasm, and positivity. Daniel joined us as a summer volunteer, always ready to lend a hand, while Art, our Legislative Assistant from Ottawa, spent a few weeks working with us here in the riding.

It was a pleasure having all three with us this summer. Thank you for all your hard work and contributions to our office, and wishing you each continued success!

Concerts at the Pier has become one of those traditions that feels like it has always been part of summer in White Rock.

It was special to celebrate the event’s 10th anniversary and reflect on how it all began. I was there at the very beginning, helping develop the original idea and plan for what would become a summer tradition for our community.

From the White Rock BIA and the City of White Rock to volunteers, sponsors, local businesses, and concertgoers, this milestone belongs to everyone who has supported Concerts at the Pier over the years.

Congratulations on ten years of great music, community spirit, and summer evenings on the waterfront. Here’s to many more!

International Overdose Awareness Day is a time to remember those we have lost, support those who continue to grieve, and recognize that the overdose crisis continues to affect families and communities across Canada.

This year’s theme, “25 Years On. Still Needed.”, reminds us that behind every statistic is a person whose life mattered, and a network of family and friends who carry that loss. It also reminds us that overdose is preventable. Through education, treatment, recovery programs, and evidence-based interventions, lives can be saved.

Today, we honour those no longer with us and reaffirm our commitment to a future where fewer lives are lost and support is within reach for everyone.

Thank you to the Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce and to One Up Café for hosting a Coffee & Conversation in Campbell Heights.

These conversations are important. They are an opportunity to hear directly from local business owners and community members about the issues that matter most to them, and to have honest discussions about the challenges facing our communities.

I appreciate everyone who took the time to join us, share their perspectives, and ask questions. As your Member of Parliament, I’m here to listen, including when the questions are difficult. Hearing different viewpoints helps ensure local voices are represented in Ottawa.
