With a new school year beginning, it's a good time to talk about something that belongs in every healthy relationship: consent.

Consent isn't about guessing what another person wants.
It's about communication.

πŸ’™ ASK.
Don't assume. Check in and make sure the other person genuinely wants to participate.
πŸ’™ LISTEN.
Pay attention to their words and their comfort. Hesitation, silence, or uncertainty isn't something to push past.
πŸ’™ RESPECT.
If someone says no, changes their mind, or wants to stop, respect that decisionβ€”without pressure, guilt, anger, or persuasion.

And remember: being in a relationship doesn't automatically give someone consent.
Dating someone isn't consent.
Having said yes before isn't consent.
Flirting isn't consent.

Consent is an ongoing conversation and everyone deserves to have their boundaries respected.

ASK. LISTEN. RESPECT. πŸ’™

If you’re 16 or older and have experienced sexual violence, Elevate is here for you.

Sexual violence can happen to people of any gender, background, or circumstance, and your experience does not have to be recent to seek support.

You might reach out soon after something happens.
You might reach out months or years later.
You might not even be sure what kind of support you need yet.
You can still reach out.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before contacting Elevate. We can start with a conversation about what you're experiencing and what support could look like for you.

Did You Know? Elevate Provides Hospital Accompaniment
Going to the hospital after experiencing sexual violence can feel overwhelming.

You don't have to navigate it alone.

Elevate provides hospital accompaniment as part of our sexual violence support services.

Having a support person alongside you can mean having someone there to:
πŸ’™ Offer emotional support.
πŸ’™ Help you feel less alone.
πŸ’™ Help you understand and navigate the process.
πŸ’™ Support you in asking questions.
πŸ’™ Advocate for your needs and choices.
πŸ’™ Remind you that you remain in control of what happens next.

Trauma-informed support means meeting you where you are, respecting your choices, and helping you feel informed and supported throughout the process.

Whether your experience happened recently or in the past, you deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Elevate provides sexual violence support for individuals ages 16+ in Sussex and surrounding rural communities.

Sometimes the support you need extends beyond one service, and that's okay.

Part of Elevate's role is helping connect individuals with other resources and services that may support their needs.

A referral isn't simply handing someone a phone number and sending them on their way.

We can help you understand what resources are available and identify services that may be helpful for your situation.

Depending on your needs, that could mean connecting with:
πŸ’™ Healthcare services
πŸ’™ Mental health supports
πŸ’™ Community organizations
πŸ’™ Legal or advocacy resources
πŸ’™ Housing or practical supports
πŸ’™ Other specialized services

You don't have to know which organization to call first.

You don't have to understand every system.

And you don't have to navigate everything alone.

Start with a conversation.

Tell us what you need, or what you're unsure about, and we can help you explore the resources available in our community.

Elevate provides free, confidential support for individuals ages 16+ who have experienced sexual violence.

You may have heard us say that Elevate provides advocacy, but what does that mean?

Advocacy is about helping you feel informed, supported, and heard while you navigate your options.

After experiencing sexual violence, figuring out what comes next can feel overwhelming. There may be services to contact, appointments to attend, questions to ask, or systems you've never had to navigate before.

An advocate can help.

Advocacy might look like:
πŸ’™ Helping you understand your options.
πŸ’™ Connecting you with appropriate services and resources.
πŸ’™ Helping you prepare questions or understand information.
πŸ’™ Supporting you while navigating systems.
πŸ’™ Accompanying you when appropriate.
πŸ’™ Making sure your voice and choices remain at the centre of the process.

Advocacy is not about making decisions for you.

It's about making sure you have the information and support you need to make the decisions that feel right for you.

You remain in control of your journey.

We're here to walk alongside you.
