Swan Valley Fire Department - SVFD The SVFD provides emergency services within the Town of Swan River and the surrounding municipalities The department currently is comprised of 26 members.

The SVFD is a paid- on-call department with a full time Fire Chief. The department on average responds to approximately 95 calls per year that range from alarm activation to structure fires and motor vehicle accidents. Public education and fire inspections are an integral part of department operations. The department provides emergency response 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year with n

on-emergency aid available during weekday office hours. Subject to the provisions of the Town of Swan River Bylaw 4/2019, the Fire Department is authorized to provide the following services:
- Fire Suppression and Rescue
- Vehicle Extrication
- Water and Ice Rescue
- Ground Search and Rescue
- Farm Accident Response
- Wild-land Firefighting
- Off Road Rescue
- Low Angle Rope Rescue
- Hazardous Materials Response - Operations Level

The SVFD provides the following additional services:
- Fire Prevention & Inspections
- Public Education
- Fire Investigations

"19:39 - Sept 5/26", The Swan Valley Fire Dept was dispatched to a Single Vehicle Rollover in the Municipality of Swan Valley West.
SVFD units arrived on scene with Swan River RCMP and EMS. No vehicle was located except for one individual with injuries who was with the original vehicle.
SVFD was not required at the scene.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Swan River RCMP.
The SVFD was back in service at 20:50.

During the response by all SVFD units, a department member confirmed that it was under control and was not threatening any people or structures.
All units were told to stand down.
The SVFD was back in service at 18:45.

"05:14 - Aug 22/26", The Swan Valley Fire Dept was dispatched to a Possible Single Vehicle Accident on Hwy 10 North of Swan River.
Incident Command arrived on scene to find a single vehicle parked in the middle of the road with one lone occupant reclined in the driver's seat. Swan River EMS arrived on scene as well and conducted patient triage as the occupant complained of neck pain.
SVFD crews closed the west side of the highway down and conducted a one-lane-traffic only while waiting for Swan River RCMP to arrive.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Swan River RCMP.
The SVFD was back in service at 07:30.

Over the past year, we have truly felt the incredible love, generosity, and unwavering support from our community and beyond! Because of the many donations we have received, the Swan Valley Fire Department has been able to purchase lifesaving equipment that not only enhances our ability to respond to emergencies but also strengthens the safety and protection of everyone in our community.
The Swan Valley Fire Department has been able to use these donations to purchase vehicle extrication struts, forcible entry tools, a side-by-side and trailer, boat for water rescue, and now a GlobalMedic Fire Skid.

Every donation, large or small, is an investment in the safety of our neighbours, friends, and families. We are deeply grateful to every individual, organization, and business that has chosen to support our department. Your generosity has made a real difference!

We would like to extend a very special thank you to GlobalMedic for their generous donation of a fire skid unit.

Volunteer fire departments like ours are on the front lines protecting communities during wildfire season, and GlobalMedic's support is helping us prepare for those challenges.
This fire skid unit is equipped with a 1,000-litre water tank, gas pump, and hose with a reel that can be quickly picked up by a few firefighters and placed on a pickup truck or trailer, giving our firefighters a highly mobile firefighting asset. This fire skid will allow us to respond rapidly to wildfires in our response area and hard-to-access areas where a larger fire apparatus may not be able to get to.

SVFD crews arrived on scene to find a fully involved vehicle in the yard. Crews advanced one attack line with foam to quickly extinguish the fire. Thankfully there were no other exposures around.
No injuries are reported.
The SVFD was back in service at 01:50.

The Swan Valley Fire Department would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Li-Chuan and Te Hung Shao of Ten Hsiang Garden Restaurant Swan River for their incredibly generous donation of $10,000 toward the purchase of our new Quicksilver 420 ALU-RIB inflatable boat.

This new boat will be a tremendous asset to our department, continuing our ability to respond to water-related emergencies throughout our response area and beyond. Whether it's assisting with water rescues, supporting search operations, or helping neighbouring departments when needed, this boat strengthens our emergency response capabilities and helps ensure we are better equipped to serve and protect our communities.

Community support such as this makes a real difference. Investments in emergency equipment not only help improve our ability to respond effectively, but also help keep both our firefighters and the public safer during challenging incidents. We are truly fortunate to live in a community where people are willing to give back in such meaningful ways.

Now, we can't say for certain what inspired this generous gift... but we're guessing having a son who's so dedicated to the department may have had something to do with it! Either that, or they figured it was easier to donate $10,000 than convince him to spend less time at the fire hall! Either way, we're incredibly grateful for their generosity, their support of the department, and their commitment to helping keep the Swan Valley safe.

"00:27 - Jul 29/26", The Swan Valley Fire Dept was dispatched to Fire Alarm Sounding as well as an Odour at the Swan Valley Regional Secondary School (SVRSS).
Incident Command arrived on scene to find audible alarms sounding at the SVRSS. SVFD crews arrived on scene at the front entrance to the school and began clearing the building to ensure no fire was present. Upon inspection of the north hallway exit, it was determined that the alarms were also coming from the University College of the North (UCN) building, on the same property to the north. One crew separated to check on the UCN building while the other crew finished clearing the main school building.
Once it was determined that the school had no incident, all units focused on the UCN building.
Upon arrival of the key holder, SVFD began clearing the UCN building when they were met with smoke in some of the classrooms.
Crews used thermal imaging cameras to determine where the fire originated and one attack line was quickly deployed into the structure. At this time, once it was confirmed to be a fire in a structure, another call was made for additional members to attend the scene.
Crews thankfully were able to seek out the fire and quickly extinguish it. The origin of the fire was a heating element within the ducting system. A fan was also set up to exhaust the lingering smoke within the building. There were no signs of fire extension and crews were able to limit damage to the one classroom.
No injuries are reported.
The SVFD was back in service at 02:25.

"14:23 - Jul 23/26", The Swan Valley Fire Dept was dispatched to Black Smoke Coming from a Building on Government Road Across from the Airport.
Incident Command arrived on scene to find that the incinerator was used in the adjacent lumber yard and the startup caused a plume of black smoke that resembled a building on fire.
All SVFD crews were stood down from responding.
No injuries are reported.
The SVFD was back in service at 15:00.

9-1-1 services have been restored!

A severed fibre optic line has caused a province-wide emergency services dispatch disruption across Manitoba, impacting communities and towns outside of Winnipeg. Efforts are underway to restore the system, with emergency dispatch services being impacted.
We are asking residents who require emergency services to use the direct 10-digit phone numbers to fire, police, or ambulance.

If you are unable to get through to 911 this afternoon, please contact the Swan Valley Fire Chief at 204-281-3079 in case of emergency.
