For Immediate Release | Swift Current Airport to hold Emergency Response Exercise – October 8, 2026

Swift Current Airport would like to advise the public that a simulated emergency scenario will take place during the afternoon of Thursday, October 8, 2026, as part of a Federal requirement to conduct full-scale testing of its Emergency Response Plan (ERP).

The exercise will take place on the Airport grounds, and will include the participation of various agencies including the RCMP, the Swift Current Fire Department, Swift Current EMS, the Department of National Defense and the RM 137 Fire Department.

Swift Current Municipal RCMP have charged a male in relation to investigations into two sexual assaults. Investigators are now looking into whether there are other victims.

In September 2026, Swift Current Municipal RCMP received two reports of sexual assaults of teenaged girls. Both occurred this year in Swift Current.

As a result of continuing investigation, 23-year-old Aniken Edwards from Swift Current was arrested and has been charged with two counts of sexual assault, Section 271, Criminal Code and one count, invitation to sexual touching, Section 152, Criminal Code.

He has been remanded into custody until his next scheduled appearance in Swift Current Provincial Court on October 5, 2026.

Generally speaking, we limit what we release about sexual assaults to be mindful of the well-being and the privacy of the victims. In this case, investigators are now looking into whether there may be additional victims. Because of this, we are releasing additional information about these investigations to assist in identifying any potential additional victims.

Investigators believe the accused befriends people who are younger than him. It’s believed the accused often hangs out at places frequented by teenagers. He is also known to use Snapchat to communicate with teenaged girls.

Sexual assault is any intentional, unwanted touching of a sexual nature. It is also a criminal offence for an adult to sexually touch a person under the age of 16, or to invite or counsel a person under the age of 16 to touch them – regardless of consent.

If you think you are a victim, know that you won’t navigate this process alone. Saskatchewan RCMP takes every report of sexual assault seriously. Investigators are specially trained in trauma-informed and survivor-centered approaches and are dedicated to supporting survivors, and ensuring they have the supports they need.

You can make a report by calling 310-RCMP. Anyone with information about this investigation can also report it to 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.

Important note: there are publication bans in place that prohibit publishing information that identifies the victims in these court proceedings. This includes posting on social media. Thank you for being mindful of the publication bans and the victims’ wellbeing.

What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. My 3 precious granddaughters, Hannah, Holly and Clementine. Now that they’ve seen council chambers, met with our wonderful City Clerk and the Mayor, they understand why sometimes Gramma can’t babysit or be at soccer or skating or just hang out. It’s a busy life!
