Section 2 PART 1/3 Understanding Your Property Taxes: Base Tax & Levies
Every property in Swift Current pays base tax and levies.
For 2026, the residential base tax is $820.
The base tax helps fund general City operations and services used throughout the community, such as; facility operations, policing & fire protection, parks, trails & greenspaces, and recreation & culture services.
In addition to the base tax, levies are also applied annually to properties within Swift Current.
For 2026, the following levies remain in place:
Long Term Care Levy
âȘ Residential households and apartments: $35
âȘ Commercial properties: charged through a tiered system based on assessment value
Recreation Levy
âȘ $140 applied annually to households, apartments, and businesses
âȘ Supports recreational infrastructure projects, including the future Aquatic Centre/Recreation Facility
One thing to note: if you own several properties, you will receive more than one tax notice and will pay these levies on each property. For example, if you own a duplex with three suites, the levies will apply to every suite.
Because these levies are established through bylaws, they must return to City Council each year for approval. This does NOT mean there are new levies each year, it is simply part of the required annual bylaw approval process.
