It’s all over the media today, but since Meta doesn’t allow us to share new stories, here’s our own Feel-Good Friday afternoon content about yesterday‘s tour of North American Helium’s new facility in Stewart Valley. Mayor Al Bridal, and some of the members of City Council were delighted to attend, and meet North American Helium’s CEO, Mr. Nick Snyder, who is pictured with Mayor Bridal inside the facility. Other VIP guests included Saskatchewan’s Minister of Energy and Resources the Hon. Chris Beaudry and Swift Current’s MLA, the Hon. Everett Hindley. This is a very exciting time for Southwest Saskatchewan!

UPCOMING CLOSURE on MONDAY, affecting downhill traffic headed downtown:

Please be advised that on Monday, October 19, 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m., the 400 block of 1st Avenue NW (that is, between Lorne St. West and Sidney St. West) will be closed to accommodate a water main repair. A detour will be in place directing traffic to use 2nd Ave NW.

Please use exercise caution when travelling in the area. We appreciate your patience and understanding while this essential maintenance work is being completed.

At this week’s Council Meeting, Mac Forster, Vice Chairperson of Pioneer Co-op, and Daniel Johnson, CEO of Innovation Federal Credit Union, attended to proclaim October 12–16 as Co-op Week. This year marks Pioneer Co-op’s 90th anniversary! Co-op Week celebrates the co-operative model and recognizes the important contributions co-operatives and credit unions make to our communities and local economies.

To celebrate, Pioneer Co-op and Innovation Federal Credit Union are hosting a community BBQ this Friday at the south entrance of Wheatland Mall! 🌭 Stop by and enjoy a BBQ for just $5. Everyone is welcome!

Today, the City Hall Billboard is running all in purple, promoting Light It Up for DEAM! - an awareness campaign in support of Inclusive Employment through SaskAbilities - Swift Current Region. It's not broken or stuck, we really just dedicated today's entire billboard slide show to the cause, and decorated the windows of Council Chambers with a string of purple lights. Last year, Swift Current took top spot among communities in Saskatchewan, for most registered LIGHT IT UP locations! Will we make it to the top again?

Each month features something new to try, and participants can choose which clinics they’d like to take part in!
