On October 7th, members of the Marion Bridge Fire Department visited Marion Bridge Elementary as part of Fire Prevention Week. Our members supervised a fire drill, provided an educational session for the students, and put on a demonstration with the trucks and some of the gear used in an emergency. It was a great experience for both students and members. The students were engaged and had lots of great questions! Thank you to the students and staff of Marion Bridge Elementary!

Cape Breton Regional Police are looking for help to identify a person and vehicle in an investigation into a suspicious fire at the Mira Boat Club.

Police responded to an alarm at the Hillside Road property at approximately 1:45 AM October 9th, where they arrived to fire services on scene working to extinguish a structure fire. Officers cleared the property and surrounding area and collected information from employees who had also responded to the alarm. The Fire Marshall processed the scene, with assistance from CBRPS Forensic Identification officers, and determined the fire suspicious, which has been referred to the CBRPS Arson Investigator.

Through investigative efforts, including a neighbourhood canvass, statements and evidence collected at the scene, police have identified a vehicle and person present at the property prior to the fire. Anyone with information that can help identify this person or vehicle – a 4-door car, believed to be grey in colour – or who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area between the hours of 10:00 PM October 8th and 2:00 AM October 9th, is asked to please contact police at 902-563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Today we pause to honour and remember the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting others will never be forgotten. We remember the fallen, their families, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

Today, we are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two dedicated paramedics and the patient they were caring for in Prince Edward Island.

On behalf of everyone at the Marion Bridge Volunteer Fire Department, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, coworkers, and all members of the emergency services community who are grieving this unimaginable loss.

Every day first responders answer the call, putting the safety and well-being of others before their own. Today’s tragedy is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks they face while serving their communities with courage, professionalism, and compassion.

We also remember the patient who lost their life in this tragedy, and we keep their loved ones in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

Please join us in keeping everyone affected by this devastating incident in your thoughts and prayers, including the emergency responders and healthcare professionals who continue to serve despite the weight of such profound loss.
