Historic St. George's Church

Historic St. George's Church St. George's is Cape Breton's oldest standing church. Built in 1785 by King George III. One of only three churches in North America holding a Royal Charter.

Built in 1785, St. George's Church is the oldest standing building in Sydney and the oldest church on Cape Breton Island. George's is a church of England with royal foundation and was originally built as a garrison church in what is now downtown Sydney. The church no longer offers regular services, but is open to the public at various times throughout the summer and fall seasons when a cruise ship is in town. Visitations can be arranged by contacting the page administrator.

So, what are you doing for Pride in Sydney this weekend? How about joining me and other folks of faith at United Heritage Church (near the end of the Parade) on Saturday, August 8, any time after noon, to share swag and a warm welcome to our LGBTQA2Si siblings as they march in protest and celebration. We would love for anyone — ally or LGBTQA2Si — to join us. All are welcome at the table of God's love!

We will also be handing out rainbow freezies and other swage across from Wentworth Park following the Parade (at Christ the King). Look for the Proud Anglicans banner!

Enjoy your holiday weekend!
